Hey everyone! All songs with celesta in the first hour, no particular order.

Heya James!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm
listener james from westwood:

The child of two friends of mine is taking the celesta in school band, by coincidence. He was drawn to that over the other instruments.
Avatar 6:14pm
Jesse K:

Finally, 10 minutes in we have our first celesta sighting. This theme is as close to holiday music as you'll find on this show today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm
listener james from westwood:

I see they've adapted the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile for space exploration there.
Avatar 6:30pm
Jesse K:

Yeah but casing psi is different in zero gravity

Hi.
Avatar 7:27pm
Jesse K:

Hey Jeff! just in time.
Avatar 7:27pm
Jesse K:

The liner notes list this a celesta but I'm pretty sure it sounds like a harpsichord to me

"The losing dice were tossed..."
Avatar 7:41pm
Jesse K:

is that an ominous portend?
  7:44pm

(And to correct my attribution above, it s/b Comden AND GREEN. Stupid bug truncates everything after an ampersand when using app to comment.)

oh man... the Louis Wain drawings REALLY freak me out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm
Uncle Michael:

Do we know how many mics each cat represents?
Avatar 8:42pm
steve:

they get super menacing right before they go into total abstraction
Avatar 8:46pm
Jesse K:

His artistic growth is immense, I'm not sure it was taken seriously as art when he made it. People assume it was mental illness, what do I know
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48pm
Uncle Michael:

Well, he did them while institutionalized. He was schizophrenic. The notion that his art was unaffected by his mental condition would stretch credulity. That said, they are problematic as marker of the state of his condition as no one knows in what order they were produced. Any linear progression that seems obvious ha no real support.
Avatar 8:55pm
Jesse K:

Good points. I think the mental illness as trigger for abstraction narrative is suspect, it just feels too tidy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm
Uncle Michael:

What are these illustrations, Jesse?
Avatar 9:12pm
Jesse K:

This set is by Ernst Haeckel en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16pm

Wondrous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm

The jump from the last cat to the first Haeckel is inspired, Jesse. Great match.
