I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Afternoon, Mayuko and all! That's been the color of my area of NJ: gray and foggy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm
Uncle Michael:

That looks a lot like the Flint Hills of Kansas. Maybe Kansans and Yorkshiremen have more in common than I'd considered.

Mayuko:

Good afternoon, james! I did think of the same thing as I prepared this playlist today. Hallos Uncle Michael! Do you mean this is close to the landscape looks like in your area??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm
Uncle Michael:

The landscape looks similar not far from here. Less than an hour away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm
listener james from westwood:

I can only imagine seeing across the Hudson was a challenge. I used to have a NJ-facing view from 36 stories up in Midtown Manhattan and both loved and was a bit creeped out by high-fog days that completely obscured my home state!

Mayuko:

That must have felt like you're above clouds, james! I never lived that high in a building - I didn't want to do that in Tokyo since I was afraid of earthquake!

I do occasionally return to English-lit books like "Wuthering Heights" as an adult, as I don't think I gave them anything like a fair shake when I was blasting through them at one novel/week for multiple classes as an English major. Details didn't stick very deeply!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm
listener james from westwood:

"Bleak House" was far more rewarding at a more human pace, esp. when I wasn't being graded on it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02pm
Doug Schulkind:

In my old neighborhood in Brooklyn, there was a laundromat called Bleach House.
Avatar 6:05pm
Carmichael:

Ani-ah-say-o, Mayuko (phonetic Korean) and fans. Yesterday I drove home over Donner pass in a raging storm, and briefly got stuck. The irony was not lost on me.

Ken From Hyde Park:

I need to ditch and attend daughter's school concert now. I'll have to catch the archives later on. Keep on groovin'.

Dean:

"Bleak House": magisterial, vast, long. Love it. And this nod to Schubert, too.
Avatar 6:08pm
northguineahills:

This is rather neo-romantic for Reijseger .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm
Gary:

Hola, Mayuko ... and, Doug, in my neighborhood there is a laundromat that boasts "San Francisco Style." I have no idea what that could possibly mean, and I lived in SF for a decade
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm
listener james from westwood:

@Doug: I like their style. I hope that was deliberate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm
listener james from westwood:

@Gary: Your laundry comes back with broken-up bits of vermicelli in it?
  6:11pm
Dean:

They tie-dye everything?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm
Gary:

LOL
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm
Doug Schulkind:

The second to last time I ever went skiing, cross-country of course, which is to say the first time I ever went skiing, it was at Donner.

@Listener James
I'm quite sure it was deliberate.

@Mayuko
I am quite possible the world's biggest, but not necessarily the largest, Ernst Reijseger fan. I love him

Mayuko, really enjoyed your comments early in the show about Wuthering Heights. And that dark, romantic German stuff was such a perfect choice. Just had to go out for a walk. Now it is dark and o to be in Yorkshire tonight. Your show is the best, very inspirational.

I can't help you with the Breton stuff, but "Il Se Passe Des Choses" means "things are happening" and "Est… Folle" means "is... insane", and "Amour" means "love", unless it's the river in China (I have to check out Alpha Hydrae, never heard of them)
And thanks for the Kyrgyz music. You're the only DJ I've heard playing this music, as if I needed yet another reason to love your show
Wuthering Heights is on my list of books to read, but I'm re-reading stuff instead these days. Infinite Jest is ever better the second time (so far)
Avatar 9:33am
Mayuko:

Those french translations strangely fit Wuthering Heights! Never heard of David Foster Wallace. Glad now I can read English and explore new things. I was so happy to play that Kyrgyz track!! So subtle and ego-free, light like wind.
