Man, they are really milking that Velvet Underground tape vault nowadays.

i dig the other versions. fun to hear.

jj.:

yeah, though the matrix tapes were locked up in a club owner's collection until last year or so.
  12:10am
JakeGould:

@jj.: Fair enough. Sad to always realize that at the end of the day art like that is just holed away by some rich guy until that person dies or the work are discovered.

Better holed up than destroyed. Or erased.

makes it exiting... what will be discovered tomorrow?!
  12:15am
JakeGould:

@fleep: I think about the fact that many theaters in deep Brooklyn were once vaudeville theaters. And owners just tossed history to the curb when they needed space. So yeah, cool preservation.

-and all the magnetic tape that was recorded over to save money.
...one disturbing example for me is John Lennon's demo of "goodnight". such a beautiful song and we'll never hear it sung in Lennon's amazing voice.

i missed the opening track this morning but Jeff Conklin played an insane "sister ray" yesterday. i think my favorite version now. it seems over-the-top, but i've liked everything i've heard from the matrix box.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35am
jj.:

not everything on the new box has sunk in with me yet, but they're pretty much the best sounding live VU we're ever going to get, so i'm in no rush!

Whoa, nice site makeover!

with something like that i usually go through it 1-2X then focus on one disc at a time for as long as each one takes to either win me over or not compel me any more.
...when i was little & could only afford one album at a time, each one got a fair chance- unlike today, when i might buy 5 albums at once on bandcamp.

hey Alejandroool.
