Fabio's tribute to Phil may not include any Moterhead....but it will...In his way... I am sure...

Ken From Hyde Park:

I want to invent a machine that can take as inputs a song ("Mr. Giant Man," for example) and a band (Motörhead, for example) and the output would be the song played by the band. The biggest failure of that experiment would probably be the royalties.

I think you're onto something, Cecile. So many of my favorite albums came out that year.

same here.
1978 is up there, too.

I think 1981 might've been the year my musical tastes really went down the left hand path with no coming back.
Avatar 4:17pm

I think so. My tastes were first exposed to freeform radio then, and I never looked back.

Rev. Turnip Druid:

I'm on the record as hyping 1971 for that honor, but 1981 was another special one. Sky Records label stuff... Rastakraut Pasta was '81, methinks...

I've been in & out of the headphones today, but the 128 stream has been old trusty, for me. No issues here...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm

@Cecile: Yep. My local freeform did it to me, too. Found it by accident tuning the dial one summer night.
Avatar 4:23pm
Jeff:

I cannot tell a lie, I've been fussing around with one of the stream encoders while working on setting up a new stream relay server. I'd expect there'd have been a little glitch (but no actual outage) as the stream did its fallback to the backup, then another a minute or so later as it re-connected to its direct connection.

Did anything worse happen?
Avatar 4:25pm
Cecile:

nope, not for me.

About that upcoming harp show at Theatre 80: I think I saw/heard Mia Theodoratus a few years ago when she was doing a cool collaboration with Ann Magnuson at the Abrons Art Center.

I betcha whatever she does will be worth checking out.

Rev. Turnip Druid:

apologies, Rastakraut Pasta was 1980. But Roedelius' "lustwandel" and cluster's "curiosum" were '81, so that's a fine thing...

This set is sending me back to college. New York was a very different place...but you could see Pere Ubu play in clubs in the village. There was no BB King's in Times Square, but there were theaters that showed kung-fu movies 24 hours a day.
  5:41pm
Doug:

What a great show Fabio. Thanks for playing that magnificent block of music from the maestro. @p-90 Yes, it was a great time with 42nd St. being the mecca for all things exploitation. Pere Ubu was a band I never would have thought about lasting so long. I saw them at CBGBs. The last time I saw them was at Warsaw in Brooklyn about ten years ago. Still great.
