I presume @lets's go see Gran'ma' is a euphemism
Avatar 5:29pm
Bill Mac:

@Stanley - yer not gonna get much action with that kinda attitude
Avatar 5:30pm
Bill Mac:

@RR1163 I think I can agree on that notion
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm
Stanley:

Apologies Bill, I forgot this is a family show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm

America question. As far as this Englishman knows, Ann Margaret was a sexy actress who was in a couple of Elvis films. Doris Day was a sexy actress and singer. But both these saucepots seem to have a kinda sterile, 'wholesome', unsexy reputation that we don't know about. Can anyone briefly educate me?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm
Stanley:

@foofs - love the Arthur Lowe LP cover
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm

Billy Fury had a degree of cool compared to Tommy Steele.

Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...wull - AnnM's wigkey discography : en.wikipedia.org...
...she could purr & growl sensually - which just appeals to my Y-chromosome but clouds my objectivity possibly...Actors who sing can bring expressive Dramma to it - like Mickey Dolenz ferinstance - which helps them sound distinctive (1/2 the battle often?) & get a song across ??...
Avatar 5:45pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I like The Beatles said on their earliest tour - everybody had these dramatic names - but that agent sent them out w/ 'Johnny Gentle'...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm
foofs:

@Stanley: Cheers! Nobody bought Arthur's cover of 'Subterraneans', though, cos the whistling was so off.
  5:45pm
Mark R.:

Great show so far--very eclectic. A friend of mine copied me several Scatman Crothers albums--I had no idea he was so prolific. In addition to being a single, "Transfusion" was on an album called "Rock 'n' Roll with Scotsman Crothers," on which he also does "Be Bop A Lula" and "Hound Dog"!

This show makes for good Sunday dinner backdrop Bill!

Billy Fury was one of a long line of British teen idols like Cliff Richard that they were trying to make into the next Elvis, but nobody ever really made it outside UK til the Beatles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm
foofs:

Since George Harrison copped it, Neil Innes has been dangerously open to crappiness. A bit like how the death of JL drove them ex-beatles into the shit arms of Jeff Lynne.
  6:11pm
P-90:

Yes Bill, it was Sundowners>Jimi Hendrix Experience>The Monkees on that tour. In later years the Monkees boys grew more and more tickled that Jimi had actually opened for them...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm
foofs:

So nobody's going to tell me about Ann Margaret or Doris Day, then?
Avatar 6:22pm
Bill Mac:

I'll tell you what foofs, I think there's an obvious difference between Doris Day and Ann Margaret. Not speaking for all of us, but Ann Margaret has a sort've 60s smoldering quality to her, while Doris Day, being from the 50s, was simply pretty and wholesome... again my 2 pence
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm
Stanley:

Chris Spedding - don't forget he was a Womble
www.spectacularoptical.ca...
(the one with the Gibson Flying V)
Avatar 6:26pm
Bill Mac:

I certainly love the idea of Spedding - he was in Sharks, which I thought were a highly underrated blues band (Andy Fraser left Free to help found the group. The song appeared on Hurt and feature Sharks singer Snips - a new find for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm
foofs:

But Bill, 'Move Over Darling' is surely an even more openly sexy piece of art than 'Je t'Aime'... oh, I dunno. Swings and roundabouts, ennit? Swings and roundabouts.
Beautiful radio programme.

@Maxine and Bill: This has been more than just very entertaining, it's been something kind of special. And you've really done justice to Gaylord's kind of special Sunday evening spot. Thanks to you both. This also seems too short by about an hour, but I'll take what I can get. I hope to hear you both again sooner rather than later.

OK, Diana Rigg was da bomb, but she was supposed to be. This idea that Doris Day is some kind of touchstone of 50s moral rectitude still baffles me, though. Cos I dig her in a thoroughly base way.
