started life as a B-side. even the album's pretty expensive these days... funny, because you could get it for $2 in most charity shops over here till the Northern Soul folks discovered it...

The sadness songs will improve my life, so yay! (Not trying to imply that my life is sad, but that the sad songs are great to hear.)

listener james from westwood:

The Alan Parsons Project was a huge favorite of my mother's, who herself is gone 2 years, and her brother, whom we lost waaaay too early to murder. She used to listen to this and other cuts of theirs afterward and just bawl. So this too hits me right in the feels.
  8:28am
P-90:

Alan Parsons and Colin Blunstone, great match-up
Avatar 8:32am
djsheilab:

@james from westwood My heart goes out to you. Thanks for sharing that with me.
Avatar 8:33am
ausmanx:

not my favourite smiths album but "it's so easy to laugh, it's so easy to hate, it takes guts to be gentle and kind" is perhaps morrissey's best lyric...
  8:34am
KP:

Thanks, Sheila
  8:34am
KP:

Was wondering when the Smiths would show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46am
Adrian in London:

"and that's called sad" Ha! That's such a great song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48am
Goyim in the AM:

That Shangra-Las song goes right up to the line dividing real tragedy and total cheese, threatens to cross it, and never does. Brilliant.
  8:48am
listener james from westwood:

Some of these classic and less-heard girl-group songs are just grievously melancholy, both from the vocals and the arrangements. Wall of Sad.

@Sheila: Thanks very much. If we can't use music to tap into deep reserves of tears, then IDK what else we'd ever use. Works like nothing else. Hugely glad (even amid the sad music) you're on the schedule!

whoa I am awake.. unreal.. HI!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55am
Ken From Hyde Park:

I also recommend "My Soul's Got a Hole In It" by Howard Tate. Dave the Spazz played it once or twice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58am
Adrian in London:

Can't believe I didn;t suggest anything from Paul Quinn's WIll I Ever Be Inside of You LP, it's a melancholy classic!
  8:58am
P-90:

Thanks, Sheila B!
  8:59am
