I realize the cartoons at the top might be misleading -- Freberg wasn't in the Marc Anthony cartoon, I just wanted to make gifs of it because I love it.

I saw Nina Persson perform a few months back at Mexicali Live in beautiful downtown Teaneck. She didn't pull anything from the Cardigans songbook, however.

P-90:

When it first appeared, Sesame Street had a lot of hipster cred, everyone was watching it and talking about it. It was seen as an invasion of "educational television" by a kind of counterculture sensibility. (Jim Henson's crew-who had collaborated with Freberg on TV commercials-had a lot to do with this.)
And thanks again Amanda, for the "Feed the Kitty" gifs, the IOS app de-volved me to "?" In my comment at 12:19.

@sugarwolf: Doesn't that just SUCK? I read the PC Police even gave Cookie Monster a hard time for potentially encouraging childhood obesity. Freberg himself was legendary for challenging that kind of thinking VERY early on- he did a radio bit about the network executives asking him to change the song "Ol' Man River" to "Elderly Man River"- in 1957!

In the somewhat viral story going around of the LEGO "Golden Girls" set, there's an image of LEGO Dorothy and LEGO Sophia as LEGO Sonny and Cher. Maybe that's how they re-entered the zeitgeist.
