Hiya, Nate. Pass the beignet and the juju.

Good morning Nate

Sem Chumbo:

I wonder of Huey Smith's Clowns had, like, band jackets. Talk about a collectors item.
@fred: have both Mason & Dixon and Against the Day open, going back and forth. The latter a farther smoother read.

Nate K:

Morning folks, I'm fast and furious this morning with all these 2-minute jams. Thanks for dropping by!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35am
fred:

@Sem: I only read Against the Day once, maybe I should give it another try. It might be the Pynchon book I liked the least (unless it's Vineland)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45am
Sem Chumbo:

@fred: I am certain to get to Vineland but with my reading habits as discursive as Mr. Pynchon's story-telling, there can be no firm E.T.A. at that point in his oeuvre :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56am
fred:

@Sem: I guess I really should read Against the Day again. He got more focused with Inherent Vice and Bleeding Edge, and I think there were seeds of that in that whale of a book. Though I'm unable to read a book with those kind of thoughts in mind, knowing the future may still change my perception

fred:

To bring the book theme back to NOLA, I read a fine book about local musicians and the recovery from Katrina: New Atlantis, by John Swenson. I heard about that book thanks to Keili, she also interviewed him on her show, 3 or 4 years ago
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07am
Sem Chumbo:

@fred: this seems an intractable problem to me. When I plough through Moby Dick every five years or so, I am naturally doing so with a mind quite different from the inaugural meeting with the book. How I would or even could approach the book with *beginners mind* is quite beyond me.
Keili's recommendation copied. Thx.
@Nate: starred the whole show on the over-powering strength of the first set.

I hope I'll get to see Quintron & Miss Pussycat again soon. Their shows are great, with a lot that just doesn't translate to records
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37am
Nate K:

@Fred me too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48am
fred:

That New Birth Brass Band track reminds me of the beautiful red and white record I got at a Quintron show, great marching band covers on that lovely thing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49am
Nate K:

I hope everybody is diggin' the slight change of pace this week. Feel free to start your day drinking now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52am
fred:

Nate, I sure do. Guilty on both counts. And here comes the very record I was talking about
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09am
Sem Chumbo:

Great spins, Nate, all morning long.

Mr. Chenier for the win.

Even though its 12 hours late, I just thought that I should post that I'm currently reading Bleeding Edge and Moby Dick simultaneously.
