One time when I went to the Taste of Chicago, I spent some time enjoying music of the Mariachi bands performing on the Sears employee stage. There were several Mariachi bands. I am not sure if every member of each band had to be a Sears employee. There was at least one all-female Mariachi band.

Sears has employed a lot of Mexican Americans for a while, and in some stores, there are Polish-speaking sales people too. In the last 15 years, there have been Russian-speaking sales people too. So I wonder if he next time I find a Sears employee stage at a festival, if there might be Russian or Polish bands too.

Have a great weekend, everyone.

Yesterday I was snuggling with a wee. wee little terrier mix, as I've done many times before, and somehow I must have threatened her as she nipped my nose. No harm no foul, she was absolutely mortified at her bad behavior and we are still good buddies but I now have to go out and face the non-dog world with 2 wee matching scabs bridging my nose. Bad news: I missed the last 15-20 minutes.
Good news: It was because I was hearing the big joy report from a friend who took my old, worn unplayable banjolele -- an antique-shop whim acquisition that only ever sat silently a few years in a closet -- and had it fixed/restored/resurrected. I will hear its music soon. She's thrilled. "And if thy sister hath not lazy fingers and wanteth a banjolele, ye shall give it."

Fine here, Brian, but weather's miserable. We get yours about a day later. Doug, I kinda noticed. Had a trip to Lisbon with the whole family just before Xmas. Fascinating place.

Speaking of records, just discovered Duke Ellington with Charles Mingus and Max Roach - Money Jungle. Oooh ... Never too late, I guess. One for a future programme, perhaps. There's a reworking of that one by Terri Lyne Carrington from 2013. Missed her concert here last summer, unfortunately.
Avatar 10:58am still b/p:

If you have two dogs, or goats or snakes, they should be named Hot Chocolate and Crumpet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am Doug Schulkind:

@Hugo
Money Jungle is one of greatest sessions ever. Hard to imagine how Mingus, normally so irrepressible, held it together in the presence of his great hero Ellington.
Avatar 11:02am d¢ pät:

Well put Doug, but there are many instances of Charlie busting out on that album--I think it's the best example of his bass playing style/talent.

Avatar 🥁 11:05am duke:

Money Jungle is a great album. I don't agree with Miles: "Max and Mingus can play together, by themselves. Mingus is a hell of a bass player, and Max is a hell of a drummer. But Duke can't play with them, and they can't play with Duke."
