Thank you for doing this interview! The Spoonful were approached to "be" the Monkees in the early stages, and the Turtles were heavily inspired by them (Howard Kaylan in his book cops to trying to straight-up copy their sound after first coming to NYC and hearing them). I love the Spoonful infinity!!!

Great job, Michael! This interview just sold one more copy of the book. And one of the production things I appreciate about the Spoonful is that they had a knack for beginning their songs with unique and indelible hooks. I just hear the autoharp intro in "Magic" and my heart feel a little warmer. Same with the pounding drums of "Nice."

those first 3 Spoonful LPs rank among my faves of all time. each member brought something wonderful to the band. I love the rhythm section and Joe had some fabulous lead vocals too. check "There She Is" and "Butchie's Tune" (another great Steve B co-write). and Zally is probably my favorite guitarist of all time. on "Wild About My Lovin'" when the solo hits - it's sends me!! John S gave us some of the best songs of the era. great interview Mikey!
