Is this "Revolution" a Spacemen 3 cover? It's great, whatever it is. Happy MMXV Diane!

Happy New Year everyone!

Diane Kamikaze:

You're right, KenFHP, it should be time for a Mannix movie- or series, even. They could take episodes and drag them out for a good hour and a half - there's a franchise there for sure...

Rich in Washington:

this is a weird version of BLD. Is this a live version or something?
Avatar 12:48pm
Diane Kamikaze:

Yes, it's live from one of their collections. I have the 12" at home, but the mood didn't strike me until I got to the station...which happens a lot! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm
fred:

I always thought The Dirtbombs' cover of Kung Fu was channeling that Bauhaus track. I'm probably wrong, but I believe it even more now

I had their first 2 7"s, which I gave away to an ex. I have, from time to time thought about the value of those records, but c'est la vie...

@V Priceless: the only price that matters is what I can give to the station. Diane is busy helping me cross things out from my expense list

crazy extended set of madness and thunder! Way to kick it into gear for the new year, Diane! Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm
fred:

To put things in perspective, I loved U2 in my teenage years and saw them live 4 times (though my first live show was Depeche Mode). I've seen TG Gondard 15 times. And I'm more of a dance fan now, I've seen Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker's company way more than that. 40 times, and that's not counting Cynthia Loemij's debut as a choreographer; and not counting anything related to my favorite dancer sounds wrong. I'd watch hear do anything
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm
the Canterbury wood-elf:

@fred I intuit that a large proportion of WFMU listeners used to love U2 back in early-mid 80's (before "Rattle and Hum" went big). I certainly did. But it's a bit of a taboo around here (like the Grateful Dead?). I just completely lost interest in them (I honestly couldn't be bothered to spend the required 40 minutes listening to each new album), and so I find the vehement hatred of them in certain quarters quite interesting (there's so much more out there worthy of hatred, so why U2?).
Avatar 2:26pm
V Priceless:

don't feed them, whatever you do...you'll never get rid of them!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm
fred:

@Canterbury Wood-elf: lost interest in them, that nails it. The hatred puzzles me too, but my interest in it is just as low
Avatar 2:33pm
Chris from DC:

I don't really care about them except when they send me records without asking.
Avatar 2:36pm
V Priceless:

what Chris from DC said. Some interesting stuff on their 1st LP, but after a while, for me at least, the rhythm section especially drives me mad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm
DanH:

War, I think, is the only one that kinda still stands up, just because it's more angular than the others. Joshua Tree is really overrated and Achtung Baby is only of note because of the Flood and Eno production, but after that I can't really be bothered.
Avatar 2:42pm
V Priceless:

I think Eno should employ them as his backing band and tour behind HIS first three or four solo records! Win/Win!
Avatar 2:45pm
Chris from DC:

After the Circle cover of Here Come the Warm Jets, Eno should probably tour with them. I'd go see that.
Avatar 2:46pm
Diane Kamikaze:

Oh Lord, I would too!!!!
Avatar 2:47pm
V Priceless:

@ Chris from DC - I gotta hear that!

oohh..love The Skull record...woo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm
fred:

@Chris from DC: I love that cover! But the last time I saw Circle was very underwhelming, so I'd probably spend the required 50+€ on something else, like the coming WFMU marathon

Great hangover music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm
the Canterbury wood-elf:

Something to look out for in 2015 is a cover of Eno's "The Big Ship" on the forthcoming album from UK's chamber-folk ensemble Arlet. It's as if it were written for them.

@fred It's at the mixing stage right now, I'm told, not sure of release date yet. Keep an eye on their website www.arlet.co.uk
