Good morning all. Kenny G is not filling in for me today.
Avatar 7:14am Okasa:

Good morning Ken(s). Good morning non-Kens.
Avatar 7:15am adrian in mpls:

morning Ken!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16am cory:

hiya ken and kenkateers. Kenny G will not be filling in for me today also.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18am cory:

was i a dummy or did Kenny G's show not archive?
Avatar 7:19am adrian in mpls:

@cory - if you look at Ken's playlist list for the year, there's a link there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21am cory:

ahhh, groovy. thanks adrian! i will not be dosing your coffee with LSD this morning.
Avatar 7:21am adrian in mpls:

nevermind - i don't see it either...i'm an idiot
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22am Ken:

I was advised to not archive that show. What say you all?
Avatar 7:23am adrian in mpls:

more coffee!! i bailed on that show...the clitorectomy stuff was when i turned it off....which was fairly early on...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23am cory:

i was at work and missed it. fucking thanksgiving prep
Avatar 7:29am Okasa:

In a few words, can you tell us what was so special about Kenny G's show?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40am cory:

clitorectomy has me interested. i would like to hear it.
Avatar 8:02am Dan B From Upstate:

Oh, man. It wasn't archived? That show was a thing of beauty!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04am SeanG:

Definitely archive that show. It was radio anal magic.
  8:18am Jack:

Never mind the archive, bring back Kenny G. That show was wonderful; reminded me of how much fun WFMU used to be.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26am Ken:

Can't 'bring back' something I never took away, Jack. Kenny took himself off the schedule and he's too busy to commit to a weekly show these days. I will put that archive back up later this week. I needed a clitorectomy cooling-off period.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32am Asheville Jon:

is today the annual Krampus show?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33am Ken:

No sorry Jon... Krampus has jumped the shark once and for all. Any requests for backwards prog rock or anything else?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33am Ken:

Next week Im doing video show number 3!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34am Asheville Jon:

how about some Grobschnitt then?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35am Asheville Jon:

looking forward to the video show!

Morning, Ken, people!

By pure coincidence last Wednesday I contracted an ear infection that, unfortunately, prevented me to listen to Kenny G's show. But then the problem went away as soon as the show ended. What a bummer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50am Marcel M:

Hi ken and people. Morning.

If there's a Wal-Mart in Ferguson, I would guess that is it, Fofo. I'm sure the Walton family has their own private military to protect their assets in the case of riots. That's the jokey part. The true part is that after 9/11, the Waltons had a gigantic fallout-proof bunker built for themselves. They're approaching Howard Hughes levels of paranoid.
Avatar 9:20am egal:

The Humvee was once a luxury vehicle.
Avatar 9:21am Mugsy:

Never had a chance to say hi Ken, big fan of your show. Thanks for making my mornings entertaining and interesting. Keep on rockin'

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am Marcel M:

I wonder how much the label gets each play? And the artist? Very little I'm assuming?
  9:23am Brendan:

Well not Tim but time . Thanks for nothing Siri
Avatar 9:24am Dan B From Upstate:

Out of curiosity, how many complaint emails did you get, Ken?
Avatar Ken's Marathon 2024 Swag For Life Member 9:24am MD:

Hell.......O!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am Ken:

Hi Mugsy! Thanks for checking in. Marcel, they actually get larger checks than those issued by ASCAP, BMI or Sesac, or so I am told by artists who have received RIAA/Soundexchange checks.

Notekillers - The Zipper
Chirs Imler - I used to too
and for a change...Itchy-O's Burn.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32am Ken:

This is my favorite current workout jam, by the way..
Avatar 9:32am pocket vito:

I really loved Kenny G's show but missed the beginning. I don't see what the fuss is about, there's always borderline offensive stuff on this station, that's kind of the point of being free and independent. I've been offended too, but I keep coming back. Kenny G is an over-the-top character who wants to mess with his audience, which is why it's so hilarious, so why take his rants seriously? Like it matters in the real world what Kenny G has to say about anything.
Avatar 9:32am sphere:

hi there. also, Khlam is still awesome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am Ken:

Im with ya, pocket pool man. Just waiting for the mandatory 13 day clitrectomy cooling off period to run its course.
Avatar 9:34am Parq:

Just dropping in to say that the pic at the top of the playlist says it all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am Ken:

Still need the record label for this Khlam record.. plus the lAbel for the next song I'm about to play.. blasted MP3s and their lack of tags...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am Ken:

Agree, Parq. That pic really defines America 2014.
  9:35am r i s k y:

Oh man this track is tooooooooo good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am Marcel M:

@Ken: You guys are obligated to send out the info? That is rather annoying... I remember you mentioning it in the documentary.
Avatar 9:36am d¢ pät:

@pocket vito: follow kenny on Facebook. There are many for whom what Kenny says matters. But Ken, Kenny is a mischievous boy who should not be left at home without supervision. Or at least make sure that the guns, matches and alcohol are locked up.
Avatar Ken's Marathon 2024 Swag For Life Member 9:38am Andrew Waterloo:

I would have enjoyed the Kenny G set if my mood wasn't so sour last week. Still had some fun listening to it. He certainly doesn't play his character as hard as Colbert does.
Avatar 9:39am Cecile:

I am sorry that I missed Kenny G last week.

the label for Group IMage is Community
The album title is A Mouth in the Clouds
Avatar 9:40am Cecile:

Avatar 9:44am Cecile:

Ken, can you get Kenny G. to put up the show on archive? I am a big fan.
Avatar Ken's Marathon 2024 9:45am bbell:

Too bad that Krampus has hit the mainstream. Those shows were your Christmas gift to us. Maybe a Saturnalia themed show instead, Ken.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am Ken:

Funny you should mention that Cory, I know a guy who I was thinking of asking to make a WFMU game for us...
Avatar 9:54am Cecile:

oboy! oboy! I will beta-test the hell out of it. I am a serious iPod gamer. Just keep me posted.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am cory:

for more than just phones i hope?
Avatar 9:54am Cecile:

you could make it "freemium" and have the money you spend on powerups go to the station.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am Ken:

OK, I will contact him today.. not sure of he also does iPhone games or just desktop Mac/PC games.
Avatar 9:56am Cecile:

yeah, make it go across computer/iPhone/iPad/Android platforms.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am cory:

so awesome, let me know if there is anything i can do. i have no skills.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am Ken:

Anybody else know any game developers?
Avatar 9:57am Cecile:

it also should be pretty user-customizable, and very fun, but ultimately even more pointless that most games.

Yeah, I can't program, but I know what I likes!

Dan B From Upstate,

I think building family bunkers is something that comes with the territory of being a multi-billionaire. I mean, the chances of a working class revolution happening soon is quite high, at least higher than a Russian nuclear attack or a comet landing on our planet.
Avatar 9:59am Cecile:

I would start with the great indie game designer Zach Gage. He is in Brooklyn, is proudly indie even though he designed the super popular Drop 7 and Ridiculous Fishing, and helps other developers out. He is thanked all over indie game credits.
  9:59am ෝෝ (:

I also thought the army outside Wal*mart was there to prevent civil unrest during the BLack Friday.
Avatar 9:59am Okasa:

WFMU game: Start with a base of sim listeners and build a playlist of hippy noise that alienates as many as possible. High score if no sim is listening at the end.
Avatar 10:01am Cecile:

I like that Okasa.
Also, maybe have a jenga style game with piles of records.
Avatar 10:01am Cecile:

Kind of like Monsters Ate My Condo, which is a great stupid one.
Avatar 10:02am Cecile:

or a tetris like program guide where you have to fit the DJ slots together.

Or you could have multiple "mini games"
Avatar 10:03am pocket vito:

I'd like an FMU pinball machine, that would be sweet.
Avatar 10:05am Dan B From Upstate:

Game idea: Board Op Simulator. It'll go great on Steam (online game store) with other such greats as Farming Simulator, Train Simulator, Grass Simulator, Goat Simulator, and Tabletop Simulator (Every single one of those is a real video game).
  10:05am ෝෝ (:

Lio and Marie from The Limiñanas are from the city of Perpignan, France.

WFMU game: To clear a level, you have to have all your sims turn off their radio. Level 1 is super easy, because it is all Soccer Moms and old people. But trying to get the weird burned-out shut-in dude to turn off his radio on level 8 is a real challenge.

WFMU video game idea:

Genre: First-person shooter

Concept: A lonely hippie, aka wfmu lover, tormented by friends and society by his/her eccentric musical tastes, lost it one day and goes on shooting rampage.
Avatar 10:10am Cecile:

I have it on my iPod. Of course.
I must have 80-100 games. I will try just about anything except hardcore boring medieval world building MMO games. Or the first person shooters. Unless it's Annoying Orange. That's funny.
Avatar 10:11am still b/p:

A game in which you see how many times you can get the woof-moo dog and cow to...do something special to commercial radio operations and consultants.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Marcel M:

There could be a 7SD game where you go through all the pranks. The Mail Prankers, etc.
Avatar 10:12am Cecile:

my favorites are tower defense, horizontal running platformers, match-3 fighting games, match 3, word puzzles and spatial puzzles.
Avatar 10:12am bobdoesthings:

so far.. these are all terrible ideas.
Avatar 10:13am Cecile:

  10:17am Jack:

How about a game where you're the station manager and you have to put together a new schedule that has 70 slots, and you have 100 DJs to pick from. The goal: make everyone happy and minimize the complaints.
Avatar 10:17am d¢ pät:

the gif accompanying this Tropengold tune is the best one EVER.
  10:17am Neg-guh-tor:

I'd make it a WFMU trivia game. Obscure bands, history and record stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am crateslinger:

stockpiles of napkins and plastic spork packages equal points... extra points for getting your roommate to answer the door when your food arrives... win the game by getting him to pay...
Avatar 10:17am Dan B From Upstate:

All kidding aside, it should be a Freemium game, so that children with their parent's phone can consistently raise money buying useless in-game coins. (The funds go directly to WFMU)
Avatar 10:19am Cecile:

I'm with you on the freemium.
And I made the schedule decisions into a Tetris game. People! read my posts!

So far I like the taco thing.
Avatar 10:19am d¢ pät:

you're on the right track Dan B. Object of game is to build a giant robot powerful enough to destroy all other radio stations. But you have to keep upgrading, adding weapons, etc. which you can buy.
Avatar 10:20am Cecile:

you could have corn fungus tacos, carrion tacos, TVP tacos, etc.
Avatar 10:21am Dan B From Upstate:

Ken? Have you played the "Avant Gardener" video on one of your video shows yet? I get a kick out of it.

Avatar 10:29am bobdoesthings:

the problem with trivia is it'll feel very exclusive.. shutting people off to who aren't music trivia obsessed... and I could imagine the trivia to be so obscure and/or pretentious
Avatar 10:29am still b/p:

Hey, speaking of pretzels (I won't get to say that again today), I like the clunky lighted pretzel that goes atop the big public Xmas tree in Reading, PA. That's also where this year's tree was so scraggle-ass ugly that complaints and wider attention almost got it yanked, but the hubbub has turned and now they're gonna celebrate it as a Charlie Brown tree.

I've been trying to come up with a suitable WFMU 1st person shooter style game for a long time. The schedule would be rendered as a 3d-dystopia, with each area triggering streams out of the archives. Lots of picture-of-the-day style graphics and Terry Gilliam-like cutout sprite animation.
Meanwhile, you'll have to make due with the Andymatic Zingatron.

A WFMU simulation game should primarily be about staying on the air, technically, financially, & legally. I don't know that there's a suitable way to simulate those. Any of those factors could be analogized to target shooting, object dodging, etc., but it wouldn't carry the flavor.

If it's a WFMU game, maybe it should be about planning and executing a successful fundraising marathon. The problem is integrating the freemium into that idea. Maybe you convince your players to pay for rewards to enable faster fund-raising? Kind of like paying to immediately build buildings in simpsons tapped out...
