Favoriting October 25, 2014: Singles Going Steady Continues!

Our October Silent Fundraiser is coming to an end. We’re offering several enticements to nudge you into parting with a paltry amount of your hard earned $$$. First of these is that making a pledge of any amount allows you to enter your pet into WFMUs first ever mascot contest. Snap a pic of your favorite mammal or that toadstool whose shape you’ve become particularly fond of, and post it along with your pledge. I further propose a mascot contest for the Zzzzzzero Hour program. Pledge to MY show and I’ll put your animals/plants in the running to be the symbol of this program. Just email billm at wfmu dot org a copy so I can post it on my playlist. Don't forget pledges of 50 dollars gets you the FMU Under(water) Dog or Illuminati Cat T-shirt.

Johnny Marr played an impromptu performance at Night & Day cafe in Manchester last year. It was the beginning of his solo career. There is a single resident evil trying to have the cafe quietened down. pending court action. There is a massive petition to protect the club which has been established for 25 years. He's been living there 18 months or so complaining..?

I'm not sure that its quite as straightforward as single Resident Evil vs Innocent Club? - from what I hear from people living in the town and who are familiar with both parties -there is a lot of spin around the petition and there are many more complaints/matters not being shouted out. Fran, I think it is worrying that people choose to live in the immediate city centre especially next door to popular and invaluable music venues and then complain that there is nightlife.

@Sem From what I understand he was also working at a record store in Portland Oregon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23am

Apparently that's not the only issue though Kitty - I think you are right if those were the actual full facts and that person was the only problem (that person doesn't now live there I believe?)but I understand its more long running than that and more complicated. Like I say a great venue and want to see it stay - I remember seeing The Black Keys there!

re: Sleepwalk
"Santo" passed away many years ago, his brother "Johnny" Farina is still giving mesmerizing performances of Sleepwalk.
I was at Les Paul's weekly show at the Iridium Jazz club in midtown (Manhattan) a few years ago, when Johnny came on stage as a guest and played a couple of numbers on the steel guitar. Les had a fascinating chat with him about writing Sleepwalk and his technique on the steel, and then asked him to play the entire song a second time (a VERY unusual request.). He did, and it was magic...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48am
Fran:

I don't think he got much Beavo - had a big financial crash after they split and is very much a craftsman cottage industry today without a big car or ego! I've met him a few times and he's a really nice chap! Challenge to Bill - get hold of Bill Nelson and Reeves Gabrels' cd from this year called Fantastic Guitars - a gem! There is also a recent solo years retrospective box on Cherry Red/Esoteric which is outstanding as a catch up/overview
