The pronunciation 'wingèd', beside being familiar to us from the show, might also be relatively common from a proper recitation of Marvell's 'To His Coy Mistress', which has the well-known couplet 'But at my back I always hear Time's wingèd chariot hurrying near'. More usually, though, if you're not trying to be a jerk or to make a point, it isn't pronounced as 'cagèd', and Maya Angelou didn't pronounce it that way. In THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, there is a speech made by a Lord in which he says: "And twenty caged nightingales do sing..." In order to have the proper iambic pentameter scansion, you need to pronounce it "cage-ED". Go ahead and give it a whirl. (Also, I'm a female record collector... see y'all at the record fair!)
