ah! awesome - this song was on the dBs tape i had - when i only had a couple tapes in my car for a few months. i listened to it over and over and over! great driving song - and the best on the tape i think.

Faye, remind me to tell you my story about buying the first dB's LP when I see you next. Like most stories involving their music, all ends quite happily.

Hi Faye. (& all)- i recorded the Dbs song from wpix fm during the few months (at most) when it seemed as if the station had been taken hostage by people with good taste- around 1979. I never knew who did it,and haven't heard it in many years, since my 8-track player died sometime in the 80s! Thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Dren Nilso: Perhaps I'll share an abbreviated version of it on my own comments page the next time I a) play the dB's and b) activate comments. Both may occur sooner than you'd think.

P-90:

@coelacanth: I remember those few magical days at WPIX in 1979-80! For a moment, the station became THE cool station in the city, playing the commercial hits of he day (many of which were great) and a lot of the best new music. That funny little PIX "golden age" still omes up from time to time in conversation with music lovers who lived in the city at that time...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm
coelacanth:

While i'm in blabber mode- I thought from the kitchen during that Beyonce song how i didn't like the lead vocalist's singing style but really liked the arrangement...Then i find out it's her...Now,despite not liking the singing,i must reconsider my distaste for Beyonce.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm
Dren Nilso:

You (Gaylord) Duane and Faye are my faves right now. Thanks!
  11:36pm

I just searched the inter webs about WPIC back in the 1979-80 “New Wave” phase. So happy to have been 11-12 years old back then. books.google.com...

Faye:

oh damn Dren I am stoked to be in that list

Avatar 11:44pm
Danne D:

I'm home (as I guess the dBs made me drive faster)

@P-90 and coelacanth I can't say that I directly remember that one year of PIX as I am a bit young but I do remember my brother-in-law waxing poetic about it many times - basically that PIX somehow had lured all the best DJs for that one year somehow and how good it all was.
  11:46pm
P-90:

@JakeG.: thanks for the New York mag link, what a time-warp experience reading that, the descriptions in the article give some idea of what they were doing

@coelacanth: This 79-80 PIX thing came up inconversation with freinds just a few weeks ago, its definitely not forgotten
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm
coelacanth:

Yes wpix turned me on at a young age to lots of punk & new wave, but also Iggy Pop,Velvet Underground,Captain Beefheart-etc etc and much 60s psych.
...I thought it was much less than a year, but maybe i just found out late.
  11:50pm
JakeGould:

FWIW, I remember that era of WPIX since that is exactly when I was in 7th grade and going to JHS. This was in Brooklyn. I had this homeroom teacher—who was also our math teacher—who would genuinely reward kids for getting problems right with 45s. He kept them locked in a closet in the back of the room & it was like magic when someone—not me—scored a Joan Jett 45 of “Fake Friends” I believe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm
pacific standard simon:

Does that Scratch Acid track remind anyone else of Led Zeppelin fronted by Lux Interior?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm
coelacanth:

...When i got up for school one morning and turned on pix to hear "love songs-nothing,but love songs" i nearly cried! ...But that's when wfmu,(which i'd discovered in 1977,but it was too weird for me !), became my main station.
After wpix i couldn't go back to wnew!

@DanneD: that you heard about it often enough from your brother-in-law to have taken note of it illustrates my point to coel that that era is well- and fondly-recalled
