Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:07pm Jeff Golick:

-- did the stream just cut into your show, Doug? What I'm hearing doesn't sound Paul Flaherty-like.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Doug Schulkind:

Yes!
Avatar 6:09pm glenn:

yeah, there are some stream issues.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Doug Schulkind:

Thanks Jeff! That was a little Bill Dixon interlude in the middle of Mr. Flaherty's warbling.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:10pm Jeff Golick:

Ah there we go.

Sounded a bit more African in origin to me, but what do I know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm Doug Schulkind:

I think my Internet connection is freaking out because it's 45°F here.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm Doug Schulkind:

It's linguine and clam sauces in our house, tonight. One of my all-time faves. And my dear wife is out of town and I'm not making a salad. SHOCK! (Please don't tell.)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:16pm Gary:

When the wife's away, no salad be made.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Doug Schulkind:

Me no have either, Jeff G. Me snarfed from Youtube. Me cheat. Me don't care.

Avatar 6:23pm ndbob:

@Doug What will Lincoln eat instead of the clam sauce?
Avatar 6:24pm ndbob:

I'm serving delivered food from an Indian restaurant
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Doug Schulkind:

@ndbob
Blessedly, Lincoln eats shellfish.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm Doug Schulkind:

I'm guessing this is the first time you've listened to a performer named "Peanut the Kidnapper." Just a guess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm pacific standard simon:

Always up for Japanese, Gar.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:25pm Gary:

You are correct in my case.
Avatar 6:26pm ndbob:

I had the Yazoo LP that one of his songs is on - one of the truly great names
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Jeff Golick:

@Doug: Did he later become Peanut the Penitent?

Also, any Keef coming up?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Gary:

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:31pm Gary:

This Witch song is awesome.
Avatar 6:32pm kat330:

PG's still licking his fingers, but hopefully shall arrive soon.

Doug, you probably go back as long as anyone with the WFMU DJ's. Can you identify this mystery DudeJay who is the default on our Internet radio viewer? bit.ly... Thanks in advance for sating our longstanding curiosity.
Avatar 6:32pm kat330:

Hi, Bob!
Avatar 6:34pm Philo Gristle:

Howdy, gang. Doggone it, missed Monsieur Dutronc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Doug Schulkind:

@kat330
Kinda looks like Vartkes Baboghlian with a beard, but I ain't never saw Vartkez with a beard.
Avatar 6:35pm glenn:

is billy jo any relation to bee spears?
Avatar 6:35pm kat330:

Not Scott Williams, is it? That was the closest I came to a match looking through the DJ Flickr pics.
Avatar 6:36pm hyde:

I think this Billie Jo Spears tune has enough production
Avatar 6:36pm kat330:

IAE, thanks for playing. [No match, the board goes back.]
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Doug Schulkind:

@glenn
Beats me!

@kat330
Definitely not Scott.

@hyde
Never ever enough.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm pacific standard simon:

Maybe it's a scholastically generated portrait of an imaginary ideal FMU DJ.
Avatar 6:39pm Holly in NC:

Hi Doug & everyone!

Loving Witch.

All of your meals sound DELICIOUS. Dal, pork stew, clam sauce, mmm.

I still can't taste a thing. Am only avoiding suicidal thoughts by having fun with finding out just how *much* I can't taste. For example, lunch today = bowl of chicken broth with a raw chopped garlic clove, a raw chopped serrano, last of the habenero (raw, chopped), some salsa verde & finally sriracha just for shits & giggles (and some cabbage & an egg). Nothing. Nada. NO taste except for wee, wee hint of the sriricha of all things.

Oddly absolutely only thing I can taste a bit = a few aged cheeses: Scotland's Isle of Mull cheddar, 1000 day Gouda, and to a lesser extent Meaule de Savoie. But tried some crazy funky runny gorgonzola over the weekend, you could almost see the fumes, and couldn't taste at all. Weird.

I like Billie Jo Spears!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:40pm listener james from westwood:

dear gods, holly, hope that reverses itself soon. i honestly can't imagine losing my sense of taste and keeping my sanity.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:41pm Gary:

Good lord, please get better soon, Holly!
Avatar 6:41pm kat330:

@PSS: It's truly a mystery. And it WILL be solved, she said with resolve. It only appeared (noticeably) on a Friday maybe three weeks ago. If I hear Bryce's show on Fri., then his DJ image stays through until fxo on Monday a.m. But this guy appeared on Kurt's program for the first time. So weird.
Avatar 6:41pm ndbob:

Sorry Holly:( - and i like Billy Jo Spears as well
Avatar 6:42pm kat330:

Holly, get well soooooooooooooon!! }}}}}}}}}
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Jeff Golick:

@kat: That image looks a lot like WNYC talk show host and national treasure Brian Lehrer. That'd be weird, tho? en.wikipedia.org...

@Holly: so sorry to hear! My dad lost his sense of smell a while back, and took a hit to his sense of taste, too, though not so completely.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Jeff Golick:

Ok, I'm out. Thanks for the medals, Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm Doug Schulkind:

Oh my, Holly. How awful. I wish I could spin my records inside your soft palate or something. Feel better, dear.
Avatar 6:43pm hyde:

@Holly. oof. at least there's those tasty cheeses. hope that all works itself out! feel better.
Avatar 6:44pm Philo Gristle:

Thanks, Jeff! Oddly we don't have WNYC programmed, but the face is a match to Lehrer -- and it comes through WFMU's stream!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm pacific standard simon:

I'd go for an induced coma and a vodka drip, and hope for a sensory reset.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm Doug Schulkind:

GIVE THE DRUMMER RADIO PROGRAMMING ALERT...
Jesse Kaminsky's Kaminsky Kamoutsky is up next at 7pm (eastern). Playlist page here: wfmu.org...
Avatar 6:46pm glenn:

huh. will there be freda payne in the gold category?
Avatar 6:47pm Holly in NC:

@Glenn - was thinking the same thing! The Bobby Bland song is wonderful.
Avatar 6:47pm kat330:

This is an aptly named track.
Avatar 6:48pm kat330:

I'd give this whole set a gold star medal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm pacific standard simon:

This would be an ideal time to experiment with fermented Swedish herring, Holly. Just don't open the can near anyone you care for.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm Doug Schulkind:

@glenn
Yeah, I should gone for the Freda.
Avatar 6:50pm glenn:

i bow to your superior taste.
Avatar 6:50pm glenn:

and vastly superior rekkid collection.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Gary:

These Soul "Children" deserve an A+ for Adult-level Awesomeness
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Doug Schulkind:

I prefer fermented Swedish herring that tastes good, not fermented Swedish herring with good taste.
Avatar 6:52pm Holly in NC:

Oh, Soul Children are also spine-chillingly wonderful.

Superb
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm Doug Schulkind:

Glad you can taste this, at least, Holly.
Avatar 6:53pm Holly in NC:

@PSS - My sense of texture still working, so not sure if fermented herring would work in that regard. Is it slimy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm Doug Schulkind:

Whoops, sorry about that Soul Childrenus Interuptus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm northguineahills:

Doug, you need to do more ridiculous themes. We'll all enjoy the results.
Avatar 6:55pm Holly in NC:

But you know what would be a PERFECT test, if I choose to get out of bed?
Chittlins.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm pacific standard simon:

I suspect it is, Holly; I'm too chicken to try it, myself.
Avatar 6:56pm ndbob:

excellent show Doug!
Avatar 6:57pm earrie:

A belated, hey, what can you smell, Holly?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:57pm Gary:

Aw, man, that's it? Thanks for the medalists!
Avatar 6:57pm kat330:

Well-wrought playlist, Doug! You get the gold by giving us the gold.

'Night all!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:57pm listener james from westwood:

the stadium will now play the anthem of our gold medalist for excellence in radio programming, doug schulkind.
Avatar 6:58pm hyde:

thanks, as always.
Avatar 6:58pm Holly in NC:

@earrie - Nothing at all. Which is why I could maybe enjoy crunchy/creamy chittlins sans the shit smell!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59pm pacific standard simon:

The anthem for Doug's medal ceremony is "One Nation Under A Groove".
Avatar 7:00pm earrie:
