Might be a late-arriving crowd, Matt. I hear traffic is backed up all the way to Fort Lee.

doug, as much of a shit-show as this bridgegate thing (and our governor) are, this tweet made me laugh: twitter.com...

Please don't tell me that Jimmy Page died!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm
Matt F:

No, he's 70 today. He outlasted Phil Everly after all.
Avatar 2:12pm

I dare you to play "Stairway to Heaven."

Other common denominator on most of these songs: Mickie Most
Avatar 2:14pm

I listened to Stairway to Heaven the other day because Led Zep showed up on Spotify. I realized it was the first time I had it in years where it was a spoof.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm
Gaylord Fields:

Who is most definitely dead.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm
Matt F:

Gaylord- would you be bummed if Pagey died because of the loss of a musical giant or because it would mean a lot of extra work for you?
Avatar 2:19pm
glenn:

the mickie most thing is a bit odd, since it seems like nobody could stand him or the songs he wanted people to record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Matt: When Jimmy Page dies, I'll just claim he played guitar on all those Burt Bacharach sessions. Done, and done!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm
Matt F:

Ha! I know, we could probably get away with playing all kinds of stuff and claiming he played on it. God knows he would!
Avatar 2:24pm

plus he would claim a writer's credit.

hell, every 70 year old woman in montreal claims to have "painted" leonard cohen's "house".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm

@glenn: I will resist making "smoked meat" or "poutine" jokes (but I won't resist implying them).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm
Matt F:

Nate K- Let me instead recommend that everyone go watch Death Wish 3 right now! Indescribably great/awful.

Why are so many "cool" people unable to acknowledge Led Zeppelin's greatness as a band? Why is that uncool? I think real music lovers have to be able to hear it....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm
northguineahills:

I dig Zeppelin. As for my coolness factor, that's up for debate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm

Great choices here for the Everly Bros. Got any Phil solo? (Not that I'm complaining...)

Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Townshend claims Page only played fuzz rhythm on 'Can't Explain' flipside - 'Bald Headed Woman', because he (Pete) didn't have a fuzzbox, & the 'Can't Explain' lead was so simple even *he* could do it (certainly many live films of him doing back then) - so he says...not sure which is the greater embellisher...

...I hear Zep, I think 'Great 70s Music' !
- I hear The Wh♂ - I just think - 'Great Rawk !'...
...I always say though - to the ZepHater - watch some 'How the West Was Won' - & get back to me on that dude...
Avatar 3:08pm
Joe McG:

Hooray, some Conway Twitty! Thanks, Matt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm
Matt F:

RRN63- Pretty sure Pete sez in the book that Page played the solo as well.
Avatar 3:12pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- really !
Avatar 3:17pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- Pete's new autobiog. ?
...Zep was supposed to inherit the disgruntled Wh♂ rhythm section - & they even named them 'Lead Zeppelin'
- so - as a Wh♂fan I just get miffed when TheWh♂'s not given props - not even mentioned in books or whatever when Zep's roots/antecedents are discussed - yerknow...
Avatar 3:18pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...if so - then Pete's told it both ways over time...
Avatar 3:19pm
glenn:

not quite. keith moon was asked what the new yardbirds should be renamed s and he said "call them lead zeppelin, that's what they're going to go over like".
Avatar 3:19pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- & that was the name !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm
northguineahills:

I never got into the Who, for some reason. I had college roommates who were really into them, and if I objectively look back, they actually have some killer tunes. So I can't explain it. I don't even own a Who rekkid. I might have to remedy that.
Avatar 3:21pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& some say Entwistle said it, not Moon - & on & on...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm
northguineahills:

Woah, Gregory Isaacs did "End of the World"? Holy smith!
Avatar 3:23pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...it's also notable this compare/contrast thing - as Zep is the model for Metal to such a degree, & The Wh♂ for Punk...

- goshdarnit - I wanna listen to both streams !...

Avatar 3:36pm

'Stairway' is great - just a touch pompous, & *massively* overplayed - which could kill anything - & probably has...even make you think The Wh♂ were nothing but three songs & wonder what the fuss was about...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm

I shuffle b/tn streams all the time, or play both simultaneously. MCIAA is a really fun band. Italian space non-sense jams, usually pianissimo.

Wow, I didn't know this (Bread Maker) was Slim Harpo. I love the Lazy Lester version recorded in the 2000s.
