And why do I have 26 dollars in my hand?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm

Oh, it's heartbreaking. Do you realize the Red Sox haven't won a World Series in almost fifteen hours?

Jeff Golick:

Hi, boo, etc.
I always thought the Vol. 1 on this set was wildly optimistic. Though also tantalizing.
VU = the only group I ever bought bootlegs for (in the pre-internet LP age, anyway).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm
Matt F:

The Cards were looking for the baseball/I said they couldn't hit it sideways...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm

Nice one, Luudewig Van Beethoven.

The only thing this stuff is gonna replace is Sonny and Cher.

Woooo! Thanks Andy S. for the pledge! 96%!

i have a v.u. bootleg too, although i think it's somewhat semi legal. it's a 3 albumbox set of old lou songs, and alternate takes. it's pretty good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm
Matt F:

Some of the bootlegs, and those odds & ends Lps (Another View & VU) are the best illustration of what a great rock & roll band the Velvets were.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm
Brian in UK:

Hello Matt.
Ever sat behind the wheel of the Honda Quaalude you are there before you leave.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm
Matt F:

Was that the model of the scooter that a bemulleted Lou did those ads for in the 80s?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm
Jeff Golick:

Those releases -- VU and ANOTHER VIEW -- could not have come along at a better time for me (mid-1980s). I was just starting to get into it, all of it, and it was as if they landed (like electricity) from a different planet. Went deep down the rabbit hole...

lou reed was also in this early-80s film that like 12 people saw, "get crazy," as an old rocker being endlessly taxi-cabbed to the venue for a new year's rock show. if he does arrive, it's like at the very end of the film.

Ted Barron:

You are welcome, Matt. My life was saved by rock n roll. And it's true, the Cards couldn't hit it sideways, but like I told you this morning: I hate the Red Sox.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm
Matt F:

Thanks Matt, and thanks Thomas for your pledges! Ted, this & 2004 means we are now even for what your cards did to Teddy Ballgame and Yaz. I think we all knew that it was all over with ZZ Top's beard-solidarity endorsement of the Sox before the series.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm
Matt F:

Co-worker and friend Sara H with another pledge! Holy mackerel! Thanks!

Nope, it's Doug (Yule, not Schulkind)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm

I like Lou's spoken intro to this version where he explains the story to the audience like he's Pete Seeger or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm
Stanley:

I made it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm
Matt F:

Speaking of MMM, I implore you all to check the archive of Brian Turner's show from 2 days ago. He played some killer Velvets deep cuts/bootlegs/etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm
Matt F:

Well Ted, most people's lives aren't saved by Rock & Roll until they're just 5 years old, so it stands to reason.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm
Parq:

You know, I was gonna say this version of "Ray" sounds like the Modern Lovers even before I heard the organ break.
