Every October a bevy of massive marching bands from around the country and the globe squonk their way to Boston for the annual HONK! Festival of Activist Street Bands. In the growing global activist street band movement, the emphasis is on individuality and a “DIY” sensibility, in instrumentation and especially attire - often a warped / trippy send-up of high school marching band uniforms and regalia.

This week's HONK! NYC festival has been New York's HONK aftershock, with a slew of bands making musical mayhem in our streets, schools, a museum and even some regular old clubs. And the HONK! NYC after-party is live on WFMU tonight as this year's farthest-flung HONK legion, Brazil's Os Siderais, brings its uproarious din to our airwaves.

Massive thanks to HONK! NYC organizer Sara Valentine of Hungry March Band fame and Keka Marzagao for booking and chaperoning the band, respectively; and of course to our illustrious engineer Glenn Luttman and assistant / FMU uber-volunteer Tony Bonczkowski.

...inclined to just jump in & be 1st to say Good Evening World ! So glad to be here ! Thx Rob !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm Kristina Koffee:

Hey there Rob, RR, and everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm Rob W:

Good evening everyone, thanks for tuning in! Hope you like the band, coming up in a bit... and we have some giveaways, info elsewhere on the page. And meanwhile, um, don't forget about our little online fundraiser for our ground-floor performance space of the not-too-distant future here at FMU, which I plan to make very good use of by the way... thanks - !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Kristina Koffee:

I heard that Litvakus is playing at Gallow Green tonight, deciding if I want to make the trek out there or not... either way, wouldn't have known if not for TSPS
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm Kristina Koffee:

if not for TPSP even.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Rob W:

If anyone's curious - Gallow Green is at 542 W 27th St... Litvakus is the Litvak klezmer band we had on our last Barbes remote, very interesting band...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Mike East:

There's much I would not have known about if not for this show.
Avatar 6:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- that was a great Show on here! ; Litvakus Live really communicated to me the festive community aspect of Klezmer w/ great energy, as well the intensity & deep serious soul in that music - a combination that resonates for me...was my take-away listening online anyhow!

...decided to move up to the $15/month level for FMU (I don't earn so much...) starting after I get paid again later this week...
- never a moment's doubt you'll put the space to good use, Rob!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm Mike East:

Nice, Rabbit! FMU motivates me to want to make more money so I can donate it....sad but true. You'd think providing for my family would be enough.
Avatar 6:58pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...there is also Tribe. ; ) ...
Avatar 7:00pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Once & for all :
- Art is not Ephemeral
- Art is Essential.
- If things get tough, Art sustains our Spirit.
Avatar 7:02pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& let's face it - things are always tough one way or another...
  7:04pm sweet cheri:

hi rob, just checking in to say great show tonight!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:05pm Rob W:

Thanks Cheri!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm Kristina Koffee:

in the same boat as you RR, there's always enough for FMU. I cancelled my cable just so I could spend my laughable earnings where it counts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm Mike East:

I don't have cable because I don't want to pay for commercials...I pay for WFMU because there are NO commercials!
Avatar 7:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...must have Internet (incldg FMU). Cable-schmable.
- Damn straight MikeE.
- Nice engineering w/ all these tones ! What a kewl streetband !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm Mike East:

oh if you guys could only see me dancing in the living room in front of my family....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm Mike East:

(my wife says this music brings out the Hungarian gypsy in me)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm Kristina Koffee:

re: cable, wasn't up to me to have it.. but so glad its gone now. MikeE: glad to hear it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm Kristina Koffee:

Ah always love a good dose of Raya Brass Band, did anyone go to their CD release party last week at the Ukrainian Nat'l Home?
Avatar 🌍 Swag For Life Member 8:49pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm Mike East:
