good late morning, amanda and all!

"mad men" echoed your last wed. show's playlist by featuring "love is blue" over the credits of last sun's ep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am
listener james from westwood:

(they actually played an "fmu hit" the week before: "bonnie and clyde." if they play silver apples or the vu later in this season i will likely lose my mind.)

I Walk The Dogs

(Sonny Curtis/ PS Simon)

Walkin' Rover in the pale sun
I walk the dogs to the dog run (twice)
I needed money 'cause I had none
So I walk the dogs to the dog run (twice)

I walk the purebreds and I walk the mutts
Until they dooty's done
I pick up their poo in a little plastic bag
I walk the dogs to the dog run (twice)

Hi everybody! I was held up by the PATH train and got here with about 3 minutes to spare. I'm glad I made it!!! And it's so nice to see you all!

There will be NO MORE Mad Men spoilers henceforth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm

Hey Amanda and everyone!

Excellent show last Friday! If you didn't catch it, check the Archive!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm
listener james from westwood:

roger that on the spoilers! (no pun intended)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm
Uncle Michael:

I've heard that I could watch other things on the baseball screen but I've never tried it. It's true?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm
Matt from Springfield:

Whew, great timing!
@LJFW: Not a Mad Men Maniac (myself), but read a blog post about that episode, on reactions to MLK's death. "Love Is Blue" rocked the A/C charts in '68, so good chronological placement.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm
Amanda:

Oooh, that pun was totally intended. (I am quite glad that they played Love Is Blue, though!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm
Doug Schulkind:

This sounds frighteningly similar to the Food Emporium jingle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm
Uncle Michael:

I want to shop at a store that has a jingle that sounds like this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm
Matt F:

Please no Mad Men spoilers or anything even resembling spoilers until I can steal cable!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm

Star Trek spoilers welcome.

matt, the right folding money into the right serviceperson's hand can work wonders. just watch for their truck outside the building. but you didn't hear it from me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm
Matt F:

Wow, Jimmy Page's 80s band the Firm is better than I remembered.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm
Uncle Michael:

There have been a lot of bands called The Firm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm
Uncle Michael:

Some guys in Omaha were already called The Firm when Page's band released their debut. Three of the members of the band were lawyers. The trademark had been registered. They sued and settled. The fourth guy in the band managed the record store where I traded.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
Artie:

And yet very few bands named The Softies. Self image issues I suppose.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
listener james from westwood:

amanda, are you caught up w the end of last season's "mm," or are you still working thru earlier seasons? (and apologies for blabbing, btw. npr spoiled a hyooge moment in another currently popular cable drama for me, so i know the feeling.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm
Matt F:

I can speak for Amanda, who is probably too busy to type a full response, when I say that we are caught up through the first couple of episodes of this current season but we didn't manage to get invited to the home of someone with cable last week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm
Amanda:

I'm caught up with last season, and with the first three episodes of this season. It's my favorite show, maybe ever*, but certainly my favorite that is currently on.

*Except for the Young Ones, Beavis & Butt-Head, and Lassie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm
Doug Schulkind:

It's all over social media that "someone" saw Cheap Trick this week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm

Jinx! Sunday night was pretty good anyway though, as I imagine Amanda is about to explain...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm

@Doug: Someone attended a county fair?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm
listener james from westwood:

with you on the young ones. pivotal moment in my sense of humor, that show was.
i don't have cable, so it's itunes for mm, breaking bad, and parks & rec for me. i suspended netflix when work and life kept me from viewing the discs i was getting but loved it when i had it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm
Matt F:

They didn't play Dream Police, but Robin Zander did put on the Dream Police hat at some point during the set.
Avatar 12:32pm
Danne D:

Saw Cheap Trick at Mabel's back when I was in college. I think Robin Zander actually was in town checking out U of I with his son. And now his son is old enough that soon enough he'll take his son (if he has one) to check out colleges like the U of I
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm
Uncle Michael:

I'm afraid my first CT show was in 1979...DP tour.
Avatar 12:34pm
Danne D:

You were 9 in 1987 and yet you are 25 years old. This is not logical.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm
Matt from Springfield:

But it's always 2003, Danne! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Fiveash: Dream Police HAT? Wow, what does it look like?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm
Nate K:

I saw Cheap Trick play 4 songs in a thunder storm at Coney Island. They were shut down by the Man (the plug literally pulled) just as Rick made a gallant effort to transition from whatever song they were playing into "Surrender," knowing it would be their last song. They played "California Man," which I've always loved and "He's a Whore" Good times. Robin Zander looked like a Rob Halford impersonator who forgot to shave his head.

why are people so afraid to admit to having listened to Dr. Demento?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm
Amanda:

I emphasize that I don't have the same fear anymore, but you can imagine how it was when I was 17.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm
Matt F:

This is best one though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm
Rich in Washington:

@Amanda: You may have a point there. I think Dr. D completely warped my music sensibility when I was in the 7th grade, when other boys were getting into KISS, etc..
But then, I remember feeling kinda dorky about having listened to that show much later on.

Yeah, I used to listen to Dr. Demento all the time on Armed Forces Radio from age 10-12, and only listened to a few popular things aside from the Violent Femmes, but that not too far from Dr. Demento territory.
