I'm dubious about the new Men record for a shitty reason. Some folks at the rekkid store I part time at really like it but weren't interested in the previous Men records. I normally don't trust their opinions because they are pitchfork weenie rock types.

I read somewhere that public cellphone conversations are distracting because one hears only half the conversation and the mind is piqued into filling in the other half. So hearing only one side is more mentally taxing then being able to hear all sides in a conversation.

Dryeraser that is absolutely true. A conversation has rhythm, like music. When you only hear half of it it's just maddening, rhythmless noise.

I love when I overhear people talking on their cells in public where they are clearly lying - I have overheard dozens of men and women saying, basically: "no, hon.. I'm in Manhattan right now" when they're standing outside a bar in south Brooklyn. And I've managed to suppress the urge to yell "NO HE/SHE'S NOT!" so far..

I am ALL FOR cellphone booths. One great place to go is the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. They have a pretty strict no cellphone use, and guards really cut people off until they stop. Wish I could have a personal guard around me doing that to the general public.

I see students taking notes by taking images of the white/blackboard instead of writing stuff down. I guess it makes one less likely to lose one's notes. I first noticed this with business majors. God bless them.

Ok:
- My Dad was a painter somewhere between Representational & Impressionist - I think his hero was Degas, but he didn't have Degas' insight into character: My Dad had mad technical skills, but not as much taste & imagination.
- & being When I was born & everyhting - I'm all about Modernism. I used to tell him he did 'Human StillLives' & really crappy things like that I would say...
- So I fianlly gets to Paris. & the Centre Georges Pompidou - the all inside-out lookin' building of Modern Art
- & it ain't much different from seeing repros in books:
- once you get the Idea w/ Modern stuff - that's pretty much It.
- But when I saw the Musee Dorsee (sp.??) - a lovely old railroad building
- w/ the Impressionist stuff
- it was totally different from seeing them in books - to have Van Gogh in yer face - w/ the paint raised from the surface, &tc.
- like: These are *Painters*...
