halloo all! saying goodbye to my sweet ol' dog Marty today - that was her just there, not really attacking my daughter. Pierre, yes I certainly do!
  3:15pm

Dog nose = a beautiful thing.
Cheers & to thems who knew that nose.
  3:25pm
mark vt:

Sorry about your dog. One of my uncles "doyd" as we say in Vermont and we had his funeral yesterday. Not died but "doyd" as it is said. He had a dog for a long time named Buddy. He shot him by accident in one of his ears years ago. He was a rabbit dog. He loved that dog soo much. He never got over that. That same dog actually did attack my daughter and she has a scar on her lip now. Boy, as I am writing this it seems like all of this could be put to music.
  3:26pm
BSI:

delete ampersand. ah well.

Not Putrifiers I, but Putrifiers II.

still b/p:

Was sitting on a hill in a waterfront park on Saturday when someone's off-leash dog checked me out and licked the back of my head, leaving it wet. Does that bring good luck?
  3:33pm
mark vt:

@still b/p-always appreciate those licks. You will really be wanting those licks when they are not around anymore. Or when you don't have a back of the head to be licked anymore. You'll see. You will get it some day.
  3:36pm
PB:

Old Blue by the Byrds is a great dog song.
  3:37pm

Days like this I am glad I am a cat person. But I do love dogs.
  3:43pm
the glowing one:

Cats sometimes just disappear, they leave the house as they always do every day, but sometimes they never come home...

And sorry for your loss, Scott. I hope Marty didn't have to suffer.
  3:46pm
PB:

Could No Joy be one of the great Canadian bands ever? I know they have a very limited output thus far but they are really good.
  3:46pm
Medici giraffe:

This is really affecting. First no joy song that's really done it for me
  3:48pm
mark vt:

Very sorry for your loss, Scott. I remember one time our cat Cooper took off for many days. During the time he was gone I had odd dreams about the little guy. He has a habit of bringing one of his paws up to reach me. He was doing that in my dreams but this time he was inviting me to space.. Like the kind of space the moon and Mars is located. And beyond. But then he came back a few days later. And now we both share our space stories together.

Sorry I'm late, I've been in Solid Gold Hell...

Irene:

So sorry to hear about Marty, Scott. She was a sweet dog. It's so hard-- our furry companions become family members and feel their passing just as deeply. And life goes on. As I write this, Olive (station manager Ken's dog) is resting her chin on my leg. She either feels I'm writing something sad or just wants a nip of the lunch I'm eating. I suspect the latter. Anyway, sorry for your loss.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm
Scott:

thanks Irene. Olive & Marty are kindred in many ways. She definitely wants your lunch
  4:04pm
BSI:

Gomez (BSI canine of note) has a fascination with snorting the fumes from a jar of cloves. It must have psychedelic properties...
  4:05pm
spodiodi:

Love the old Prince!
  4:06pm
pierre:

@BSI : Bonjour to you and to Gomez (the green glowing eyed dog) for me :)
  4:06pm
spodiodi:

And sorry about your dog too... was just looking at some pics of mine who passed about 3 years ago at 15+ years. RIP, Marty.
  4:08pm
Cheri Pi:

Scott, my dog passed away 2 years ago this July, one thing that kept me sane was listening to your show and particularly the music between sets (that bossanova stuff) would get stuck in my head for weeks at a time so much so that it became the theme to my mourning of my beloved hound. I hope that you find something like a that north star to help guide you through this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm
Scott:

that's really sweet CP, thanks for that!

I was just talking about my old dalmatian, Maddie, yesterday, who has been gone for 11 years now. My condolences to you and your family, Scott.

Tonight I'm going to snort a jar of clove fumes for Marty :)

Hey Scott. Cat person here but sympathize. They say dogs are worse but I can't imagine how.
  4:15pm
BSI:

Pierre!
  4:18pm
mark vt:

@Cheri Pi-Yes. we all get through the tough stuff in life while listening to, loving wfmu. A refuge. I am in the bums for my own reasons today. These kinds of things hover over for a few days. We get over it. I think? So sad. Or happy, is it! Both?
  4:19pm
Cheri Pi:

yes, ultimately it's both Mark VT, . the sad seems to stop time though.
  4:20pm
DCE:

brilliant segue from Waters/Geesin to the Back Teeth and then into the Traktor...sorry for your loss, Scott.
  4:21pm
Carmichael:

Seamus the Dog is, of course, the go-to for this set.
  4:22pm
DCE:

I mean, I need to go drop off the FedEx, but I am not leaving my desk while this is happening here.
  4:23pm
BSI:

The aforementioned Gomez promptly came down here & plopped down with a heavy sigh just in time for the Carpenters. The boy has taste.
  4:24pm
mark vt:

Yes. I think the sad does stop time. Or at least slows it down. I am sad today but for some reason really enjoying simple things like a bag going by in the wind. And laughing at it. Very vedic, probably, in the end.
  4:24pm
Cheri Pi:

Oh no, here come the tears :) . . . . . . . .
  4:25pm
Cheri Pi:

I'm going to go home and hug my tribute dog tonight.
  4:27pm
Carmichael:

Just don't play Henry Gross' "Shannon". You'll have the entire internet in tears ...
  4:27pm
mark vt:

The tears have gone by. At my uncle's funeral so many of us are drinkers that I joked it was so sad for all of us that there was not a dry liver in the house.
  4:29pm
pierre:

when i'll have a garden, i'll try to share it with a dog.
  4:30pm

It is ok to cry.

ANOTHER DOG'S DEATH

John Updike

For days the good old bitch had been dying, her back
pinched down to the spine and arched to ease the pain,
her kidneys dry, her muzzle white. At last
I took a shovel into the woods and dug her grave

in preparation for the certain. She came along,
which I had not expected. Still, the children gone,
such expeditions were rare, and the dog,
spayed early, knew no nonhuman word for love.

She made her stiff legs trot and let her bent tail wag.
We found a spot we liked, where the pines met the
field.
The sun warmed her fur as she dozed and I dug;
I carved her a safe place while she protected me.

I measured her length with the shovel’s long handle;
she perked in amusement, and sniffed the heaped-up
earth.
Back down at the house, she seemed friskier,
but gagged, eating. We called the vet a few days later.

They were old friends. She held up a paw, and he
injected a violet fluid. She swooned on the lawn;
we watched her breathing quickly slow and cease.
In a wheelbarrow up to the hole, her warm fur shone.
  4:34pm
pierre:

What do you mean KP ? like single in a "no girlfriend" way ?
  4:37pm
KP:

No, you posted something that to me looked like an announcement. But it was a joke. In french, I did not get it.
  4:40pm
mark vt:

I will be brawn at the record fair. It is ok to cry.
  4:41pm
pierre:

aaah allright. Well i guess i sometimes tell things that can be misunderstood.

:)
  4:43pm
Cheri Pi:

It's true Pierre, we cried when we thought that you had become a married man.
  4:43pm
KP:

Somebody else covered SF Sorrow?
  4:44pm
KP:

It was almost like my dog died.
  4:47pm
pierre:

@Cheri Pi : well i don't know a thing about weeding and such… i would know what to do. In terms a engagement i'm more looking forward to share my garden (and food) with somebody.
  4:52pm
Cheri Pi:

i recommend a dog and 2 cats Pierre!
  4:54pm
pierre:

i will do. I allready have a birds house. They'll all be able to play together.
  4:58pm
mark vt:

We have so many sun flowers this year. They are falling over. And we have many tomatillos.
  5:00pm

I don't want to post HTML but Pierre have you heard of Henri the Existential Cat?
  5:01pm
