Afternoon, everyone.
  3:01pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

Hi Dave M. I'm looking forward to this. Had some WFMU withdrawal over the holiday weekend.

Uh-oh. I crack under pressure.

Dave, just say no.
  3:06pm
kat330:

Hi, Dave! Listening even when I can't be posting and looking forward.
  3:09pm
Listening Out There:

Glad to hear you're subbing again, Mr. M.
  3:10pm
BSI:

What Dead Corp.Eyes said. I'm saying that now. As well.
Avatar 3:13pm
Dave M:

Thx, everyone. I'll give it my best shot.

Hey Dave, Xenakis born 90 years ago today. Hint! if you're going in that direction anyway.
  3:24pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

three days of mobility...back to sitting in a cubicle in front of a screen again. I'm depressed.
  3:26pm
BSI:

ALL HAIL THE MUFFINS!
  3:26pm
T.D. Yum:

Dead, be grateful to have a job, no?
  3:27pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

oh yes, certainly, it's just...I wish I was able to move around a bit, you know?

BSI, I'll have one studded with sea worm.
  3:28pm
BSI:

<185> = their finest hour, in my humble.
Avatar 3:30pm
Dave M:

BSI: Agreed.
  3:30pm
Mr Donut:

Dave, a few weeks ago I think you said what you thought were the 4 best King Crimson albums. Could you refresh my memory? They're new to me and I'd like to check em out.
Avatar 3:33pm
Dave M:

@MD: The 1973-75 band, no contest: Fripp/Wetton/Bruford. That would be "Larks' Tongues," "Starless," and "Red" (as well as a bunch of later box sets, etc.).
Avatar 3:34pm
Dave M:

I have one of those right here with me...
  3:34pm
Magic Band:

In the Court of KC/Lizard/ Larks tongues in aspic/Vroom.
  3:35pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

the first one will always be my fave, but those are close behind...also Lizard and Islands.
  3:40pm

Discipline is also excellent.
  3:41pm
Mr Donut:

Thx DM and commenters!

Wow, that Seijaku was amazing, and Muffins was excellent too. I'm all about this set.

funny I was just listening to God by Lennon...
  3:52pm

Dave M: Muffins = still active, though members are scattered far & wide. There was a new release (Palindrome) couple of years ago on the Musea label outta France.

...with *cough cough* really spectacular package design *cough cough*...

Hey Doug!
  3:54pm
kat330:

Hey, Doug! Hope your birth-holiday was fab!
And Pat, we just watched the Lennon doc, The U.S. vs. John Lennon, yesterday. Great Memorial Day view.
  3:54pm
TDK60:

Always dug the melodious tunes on Ram. Do the lyrics even matter?
  3:56pm
dc pat:

kat: hey thanks for mentioning that, I forgot to watch it!
  3:56pm
kat330:

Few can craft a melody as sweet as Mr. McCartney -- thanks for this, Dave.
Avatar 3:57pm
Dave M:

Well, that song starts with a subtle dig at John Lennon: What sounds like "Piece of cake" is actually "Piss off, cake."
  3:57pm
Clay:

Ram ... still my favorite Macca solo LP. I did really enjoy Chaos and Creation a few years back.
  3:58pm
kat330:

Pat, we saw it through Hulu on our Roku -- we don't have cable -- so I hope you can find it somehow somewhere. Excellent! The Vietnam war images... let's just say it reminded us of what Mem. Day is truly about.
  3:59pm
northguineahills:

Sarah June sounds a lot like Alison Shaw from the Cranes.

@northguineahills Heck yeah !

a fine choice, sir.

Matt from Springfield:

I see there was some Muffins earlier--the DC based group of the 70s? Is 185 an original album or a comp?
Avatar 4:21pm
Dave M:

Original LP. 1983-ish.
  4:22pm
TDK60:

So, Bob accepts a medal from the Lord of the Drones.
  4:23pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

TDK60, what's your position on Maxell 90s?
  4:24pm
Chris from DC:

Oh yeah, "Master Heartache". Good one.
  4:24pm
Matt from Springfield:

Cool. I have a couple albums from Michael Zentner, I don't remember if he was ever in the Muffins but some personnel from that band did play on his albums.
  4:24pm
Ann Nuit:

LOT/TDK60, Bobby D.'s my man, so watchit!
  4:31pm
kat330:

Is that a pillbox or CD jewel case you're fiddling with, Dave? :)
Avatar 4:31pm

Jewel case. No pills here, Kat.
  4:32pm
kat330:

Good then!
  4:35pm

  4:40pm

  4:44pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

a nice way to spend the waning hours of the workday
  4:46pm
BSI:

yeh, it should be waning over here soon. Or so they said this morning.
  4:46pm
BSI:

digging ALL THIS, by the way...
  4:47pm
Carmichael:

It will soon wane, Scott.
  4:47pm
Matt from Springfield:

Liked those synth sounds of Peder. Yes, nothing like the workday as it wanes and (hopefully) the embers of tasks slowly burn out.
  4:50pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

as your workday wanes, your personal life waxes
  4:51pm
kat330:

Thanks to you and WFMU, the world CAN hear Rimarimba.
  4:54pm
Matt from Springfield:

Most true, DCE.
(Have a good night if you're heading out soon!)
  4:55pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I found a couple of postings on the continuo.blogspot site that have Rimarimba...going to hope that those mediafire links are still valid!

thx Matt. I will be leaving NOW!
Avatar 4:58pm
Dave M:

Also check the Mutant Sounds site. I'm almost certain they've got some Rimarimba stuff for downloading.
Avatar 4:59pm
Dave M:

@DCE: See ya.
  5:00pm
Matt from Springfield:

And yes, have to see if I can DL some Rimarimba after work. Interestingly, there is exactly one mention of Rimarimba on Wiki, in the article for Terry Burrows; he has "releas[ed] albums by non-commercial acts such as Loch Ness Monster, Rimarimba, R. Stevie Moore and Attrition". Terry has great taste!

The Chie Mukai makes me wonder if FMU has Gino Robair's 7" of Styrofoam.

  5:22pm
Carmichael:

Sittin' here woikin'. Sounds great, particularly Peder.
  5:25pm
kat330:

Ken, usually that's noted on APOD, but I was there already looking at Venus info (per the Morning Star/"Where Is My .... "), I didn't note any mention. Always May 30th or ...?
  5:26pm
kat330:

er, May 29th I meant.
  5:28pm

I must discover more Moondog, now!
  5:49pm
kat330:

Hey, Matt, I played/recorded the Finnish harp (kantele) this morning. Pretentious, yes? ;)
  5:54pm
kat330:

Dave, duh, just now noticing your major sky theme all over the playlist. No wonder the music is so lovely.
  5:54pm
Matt from Springfield:

"See-Saw"!! My favorite "atmospheric" piece on Saucerful of Secrets!

@kat: Well, it is pretentious to *mention* it :)
Julie has played a band called "Pretentious, moi?" Nice title, no? :)
  5:56pm
kat330:

I just thought you'd be interested that this beautiful table sculpture I've had for some years is finally making music. [sniff]
Avatar 5:56pm

@kat: Really? That's a complete accident.

@Matt: Rick Wright could do no wrong as far as I'm concerned.
  5:58pm
Matt from Springfield:

Rick's pieces are quite brilliant.

@kat: Well, I am happy that you magically converted furniture, into sound, so to speak... :)
  6:00pm
kat330:

Thanks for this afternoon's sounds, Dave.

Matt, now you don't wanna lose your "mensch" status, no? And "moi" is only Finnish goodbye to me. Moi! :)
