A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Is DJ IcePack singing again this year?
  9:59am
Danne D:

FMU should see if they could get a million off of this guy, since it's so, ya know, uncool:

Hey Danne, I thought you signed off for work? Anyone French really should pledge to this show (I'm looking at you, pierre).
Anyone named fred -- or any variant thereof -- too, because I ran out of cash in the first week and you guys JUST HAVE to keep the station running!
  10:42am
glenn:

has nobody ever thought of putting dawn penn together with dan penn? seems like a natural winner to me.

  11:01am
tomasz.:

hi Trouble, Mike, everybody. a little skint this year so i'm only dropping a few $15s on various favourite shows. Trouble, yr show is a definite favourite so it seems only right! hope i qualify for an 80s rap name, i actually already have a couple of rap names, but you can never have too many aliases, as ODB taught us well
  11:04am
Carmichael:

Hiya Trubb, listeners, and thieving Gypsy bastards.
After the mouse pledge, I may in some financial class 1 rapids. We'll see how it goes from here on out.
  11:06am
Webhamster Henry:

This Nina Simone tune is worth the whole pledge, folks.
  11:08am
pierre:

@ fred : Salut ! glad to see you on the comment board,
I owe money to "la banque de france" right now, it means blocked account, and all that. although i thought i "web pledged" last week.
  11:11am
Danne D:

Fred, I signed off for my commute to get to work ;o) I have a long drive.
  11:16am
βrian:

I've always like hippies. Just can't help it.
  11:18am
Richard from Venezuela:

After a nap, checking in. Greetings to trouble, mike and all the listeners.
  11:18am
Danne D:

Nachum is an entertaining interviewer - I've been tuning in a bit to hear him pitch the marathon - can appreciate his radio style. (Do I have to confess this on Ash Wednesday?) :)
  11:18am
βrian:

Fenton, Michigan? I'm impressed. Yo to Fenton from a Flint refugee.
  11:19am
Jonathan "Rock" Skinner:

Trouble, I totally get the dance DJ-ing dilemma. You know "piaf" is what the birds sing in French. If you find a James Brown tune with some good bird song references, you are in business . . .
  11:22am
marc:

i owe my diverse and eclectic taste in music to WFMU great DJS.
  11:24am
Mixmaster Modge Podge:

I agree with Mike. Trouble is a punk. And it takes one to know one!
  11:28am
Marathon co-host Mixmaster Mic:

A POLITE punk, Modge Podge.
  11:28am
aaron à chicago:

kidz bop really upped the ante with this new release
  11:36am
listener stu:

Hi Trouble !

Just pledges ( but forgot to send a message

We LOVE you !!!!!!!!!
  11:37am
listener stu:

pledged !! ha
  11:38am
fred:

@pierre: it's OK, I already know your heart's in the right place. But I know there are a bunch of unnamed French people who are just lurking and freeloading instead, and I just wish they would come out and pledge right now.
I don't know who you are, and it's not about me threatening to find out. The bottom line is that WFMU is funded by us. Nobody else is going to step in. So if you like what you've been hearing, step in. There's just no safety net. We listeners are all the safety the station's gonna get. They wouldn't have it any other way, but that means now's the time to come through and repay that trust.
  11:39am
tomasz.:

this Jahcoozi is way cool! and i'm now "Jazzy Tom" which i'm way happy with. result!
  11:41am
Jennique:

I remember Thursday mornings like they were yesterday - or two days ahead.
  11:41am
trouble:

hey stu!!!
  11:41am
Carmichael:

Fed, perhaps you should tell them in French. In case they have a sudden lapse of understanding English ...
  11:44am
Carmichael:

*Fred*, sorry ...
  11:45am
boop:

fred IS the fed
  11:46am
listener stu:

Hi Trouble !

It's Women's Day in Finland and Joe Biden was in Helsinki celebrating with our President and Prime Minister ( both female ) !! great day all around !!!!!!!love to all of you ( esp. volunteers )

GO WFMU around the world and all over New Jersey !!!!!!!
  11:47am
JW McCormack:

Thanks Trouble! Allow me to clarify: The shout-out was from my little green Parrotlet Saturday. A Parrotlet is a parrot the size of a cell phone and an attitude like a steam shovel. Only Trouble's show subdues her; she chirps along with the birds and dances to the music.
  11:48am
pierre:

@ fred (but it works for everybody) : your message is important. You touch my heart when you say "Nobody else is going to step in" it touches me. I'm going to make an anouncement in french we never know.

- sérieusement à tout les français qui lisent ces commentaires : donnez de l'argent pour WFMU, la plus sympathique preuve de l'existence d'une vraie liberté
  11:48am
boop:

parrotlets are delicious, btw
  11:49am
βrian:

Yo, Nos amis français: on voit peu de points à la carte de l'Hexagone !
http://wfmu.org/marathon/map.php
Portez-vous au secours de WFMU !
  11:50am
fred:

Those I have in mind understand well enough, and if I can get anyone non-french to pledge, so much the better. Plus I'd be hard-pressed to say the same in French by now, so any grandstanding cop out I can find will be as French as I can get
  11:53am
fred:

@pierre: yeah! I knew you'd have my back. I'm seriously owing you beer-wise. I'm looking forward to paying you back
  11:53am
pierre:

i'm sad that it need to be reminded that the djs are not doing that for money. i know that it is a kind of refex to think otherwise, but its a strange reflex. sounds like a warning to me.
  11:54am
Jonathan "Rock" Skinner:

Allez les Français . . .

Du pognon svp! (On n'a pas 1% pour les arts ici aux États-Unis . . . )
  11:56am
Bazz:

coming to the end of a cold day at work here in europe, Berlin precisely, thank you guys for lightening the mood, sweet set Trouble, you rule.
  11:58am
fred:

@jonathan: who cares about that designated 1%. France's sure isn't going to anything like WMFU (though it does go in part to my wages, so...). This is about what we the listeners deem worth of our support. Right here, right now, because we say it is so.
  11:59am
julia!:

trouble! you make my tuesday mornings so so good. and it's great to hear mike on the airwaves too! XOXO
  12:00pm
Jonathan "Rock" Skinner:

@Fred, on est d'accord! (Though France Culture does have some great late-night shows . . . voyages sonores . . . Still, you're right that there's no station ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD like WFMU!)
