Heard about CB's death last night. What a strange man he was.
  9:40am paul:

They don't make 'em like that anymore.
  9:42am paul:

  9:42am paul:

  9:45am Dave:

Beefheart was the first one to get hippies to appreciate dissonance,
  9:45am ratbone:

  9:46am paul:

Don Van Vliet -- An emesser tzadik und baal moifis
  10:10am Peter K.:

If the reports of Captain Beefheart's death are indeed a hoax, then the whole world has been hoaxed -- including The New York Times, The Associated Press, NPR, and numerous usually reliable websites. Gary Lucas believes it too. The source for most if not all of the reports was the Michael Werner Gallery, which has exhibited many of Beefheart's paintings, so if this is a hoax that's who's behind it. But, alas, I think he really is dead. Which sucks.
  10:12am Dave:

Bought "Trout Mask Replica" in 1970 from the Caldor in Danbury, Conn. (on route 7) . The record section in that store was amazing at the time. Got most of my early LP's from them.
  10:16am Jack:

@Dave - I too bought most of my early records from Caldors (in Peekskill, NY) White's department store had fewer albums, but they had a dollar bin where I bought Blue Cheer, the Beach Boys and Motown albums (sometimes two or three copies!)
  10:18am Jack:

@annie: saw many great shows at the Chance...Taj Mahal, Todd & Utopia, Graham Parker, recently Bob Dylan...many many more.
The Beefheart show was under attended, so we stayed for both shows.
  10:24am Dave:

@Jack - Sounds like we are in the same general area. I was living in New Milford in 1970. Me and my High School buddies use to make "pilgrimages" to Caldor to buy albums. I bought the first "The United States of America" album there. Amazing band till they actually got busted while on stage.
  10:27am Jack:

Dave! I also had/have that USA album! Love it! (The Original White Album - no cover picture) Saw Joseph Byrd on TV with Frank Zappa, so I had to get the record.
  10:28am SmokinJ:

Hey! It's a party!
  10:28am Jack:

New Milford? I moved to Sloatburg in 1968.
  10:29am Jack:

SmokinJ! Now it's a real party!!
  10:29am paul:

He's be-boppin and skatin' all over me and IM LOSIN IT!
  10:30am SmokinJ:

Yeah baby!
  10:31am SmokinJ:

The beer never gets cold when it's 5 degrees out!
  10:32am SmokinJ:

I mean warm:)
  10:33am Dave:

@Jack.- New Milford, Conn. 14 miles north of Danbury.
Dorothy Moskowitz's voice was amazing. Very light and airy. One of the great female vocalists. Joseph Byrd was related to Senator Byrd from WV
  10:34am paul:

Is Wild Man Fischer still alive?
  10:36am Jack:

@Dave - Ah, CT. Sorry, thought you meant NJ.
  10:45am weldon:

Received Trout Mask as a gift for my 18th birthday from two dear (to this day) friends, and it changed my auditory nerve forever. Saw him at the Stanhope House in '81(?) a truly sublime evening. DNA opened. Farewell CB- Light the fire piano. Now now now that's it. Now you can go.
  10:49am Dave:

Speaking on Danbury, Conn. Laura Nyro lived there for many years. She hits me like a ton of bricks. God was good.
  10:49am paul:

Happy to report that Lawrence Wayne Fischer is still alive.
  10:50am david:

I finally got a chance to listen to last weeks show last night and loved the back to back Stone Soul Picnic.
Thanks for repeat of the repeats today!
  10:59am annie:
