  9:27pm
D. Blumin:

This track should do the trick - you'll be asleep in no time...
  9:28pm
Charly:

Noel:

A long-time listener from DC saying hello. Nice to hear this Hototogisu song. I didn't know that it had been re-issued, until, of course, I listened to your show, which is the source of many of my musical discoveries. Keep up the great work, very appreciated.
  10:10pm
Charly:

I think Kurbel means Crank. Or there abouts
  10:14pm
wilbur twinhorse:

  10:47pm
D. Blumin:

Wilbur! Thanks - shall be forwarded to the appropriate authorities...
  10:48pm
Noel:

Daniel, I agree about "Oof!" Good to see that it's available and affordable. I think I've seen the LPs go on Ebay for over $100. Musta been reaaaaaal good for somebody to pay that.
  10:49pm
D. Blumin:

Raymond! Good to hear - pretty soon I'll be eligible fer the volunteer radio retirement benefit!
  10:50pm
D. Blumin:

  10:52pm
D. Blumin:

  10:54pm
D. Blumin:

One should only pay 100 dollars fer things with motors, Noel!
Like automobiles and such!
  10:54pm
D. Blumin:

Hola, Alex!
  10:58pm
D. Blumin:

Never on NYC, Raymond! That was Terry Gross!
  11:02pm
Raymond in J.C.:

do you often get confused for old lesbians, daniel? i love terry gross, btw. this is FREEESH AIR! :)
  11:03pm
Raymond in J.C.:

you know what i love most about commenting on this message board? the math quizzes. i'm really learning (finally!) to count without the use of my fingers.
  11:12pm
Charly:

I had to go back to school before I could post to this board.
The WFMU Math diploma.
  11:26pm
D. Blumin:

Yes, Raymond, between me and you, as a matter of fact I do!
  11:37pm
Noel:

Daniel--agreed, $100 is better for things with motors, or perhaps good condition things with 6-strings.
BTW, I went to the de Stijl website to see about the reissue (forgot that it was Important who re-released it), and they have a cut-and-paste of someone paying $361 for Hototogisu's "Cuckoo Cloudland" LP. Day-um, boyee. I guess if one just inherited $361 bucks, then it must be nice to blow it on a single LP.
Even better to pay down the student loan or donate it to the good folks at WFMU.
  11:46pm
Raymond in J.C.:

Daniel, are you familiar with Henryk Górecki? I first heard his music exactly nine years ago. It was on or shortly after the 9/11 attacks and it was played on new york times radio, which i don't think even exists anymore, incidentally. anyway, the piece they played was so incredibly, unbelievably moving. it's something that will always stand out in my mind when i think back.
  11:50pm
D. Blumin:

Raymond - do you remember what it was called?
  11:51pm
Radio Bear:

Symphony no 3, the Symphony of Sorrowful Songs ?
  11:51pm
D. Blumin:

Agreed, Noel! Either of those two options + a scooter maybe...
  11:55pm
Raymond in J.C.:

Lento - Cantabile-Semplice
  11:55pm
Noel:

On the note about Gorecki, one song that has stood out in my mind with regard to 9/11 is Arvo Part's "Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten." I think Michael Moore played it as the soundtrack for the footage of 9/11 he played in "Fahrenheit 9/11."
  11:58pm
Ike:

Great show Daniel!

I would get in my UFO and head home now but I can't get FMU out there.
  12:01am
Raymond in J.C.:

yes! symphony no 3, dawn upshaw. check this out!

  4:10pm
