A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

  10:07am
Adrian in London:

Busy busy today but will listen later, just like I did with the Arnaud Fleurent-Didier session. It was fantastic! I'd hear the album but the session made me order the vinyl. Great stuff.
  10:09am
dale:

morning from the hudson valley. feels like autumn here.
  10:10am
Cecile:

  10:10am
Cecile:

  10:11am
trouble:

hi adrian! it was a gorgeous session, they were so charming and fab! i am glad that came across on air...
  10:12am
dale:

love this sandy posey. i'm a sucker for major minor chords workin together
  10:13am
trouble:

hey dale! don't you think the opening chords sounds like this wheels on fire?
  10:14am
dale:

hate to say i'm not that versed in dylan, bob or thomas.
  10:16am
dale:

i think it's hilarious that timothy leary was on pixie records, though...
  10:19am
trouble:

  10:22am
dale:

  10:32am
annie:

  10:32am
dale:

not in the same league, but eb white's 'one man's meat' is a nice collection of short stories, sort of in this vein.
  10:33am
annie:

  10:34am
βrian:

I cheat. It's the unicode code point U+03B2. (GREEK SMALL LETTER BETA)
Under phonetic symbols on the Mac character palette.
  10:37am
βrian:

"I used to dawdle on half holidays."
  10:40am
dale:

ah, the mac character palette. i used to obsess over using proper ff, fi, fl ffi etc ligatures when i was in the design world. no one cares about quality anymore. And a foot mark is not a quotation mark.
  10:42am
Cecile:

thank you, trouble!
  10:43am
annie:

sublime, trouble, sublime... love DT
  10:48am
Cecile:

  10:49am
Nancy:

Welcome back trouble. Thanks for keeping up the Englewood connection. And the welshman.
  10:49am
annie:

freudian slippers?.... and cecile thanks so much for the "boiler" referral...it was spot on.
  10:52am
Cecile:

awesome! I meant to email you back, but you caught me in a lazy moment. I'm relieved to hear that the DJ only played the full song on his last show. I would be very worried if he played the whole thing every week.
  10:54am
annie:

see, .. yeah... he only played the beginning... we knew he was pissed off when he played the whole thing...
  10:56am
Cecile:

Yeh, I completely understand. I've only heard it twice in my life, and each time was pretty unforgettable.
  10:56am
annie:

amazing that you just picked that out.... :)
  10:58am
Cecile:

It's a weird gift. I can't explain how I know. I have a similar thing for movies - which is even more impressive considering that I don't watch that many compared to most folks on here. I'll see a scene from a movie I've never seen and say "oh, it's this movie." Hrm.
  10:59am
Carmichael:

Hiya, Trubb. Hey now, everyone.
  11:00am
Skirkie:

I don't think I've vacationed that long, ever.
  11:01am
annie:

i love that you can do that... i know movies, but have no capacity to recall which scene comes from which.. but i DID used to know all the lines from princes bride..
speaking of kiddos, trouble, did dj icepack have fun?
  11:03am
Cecile:

I can't remember lines from anything except Anchorman. But I remember pictures...
  11:05am
Carmichael:

I have an odd ability to remember movie lines, especially strange movies. And phone #s. From everyone I've ever called.
  11:06am
Cecile:

I remember a lot, Carm. I'm surprised.

Ah, Huey Smith. You can never have a bad day when the Clowns are playing.
  11:07am
don:

annie, that's inconceivable !
  11:09am
Cecile:

You killed my father, prepare to die.
  11:10am
annie:

don, there was a great cartoon today for "basic instructions": n one panel he hollers, "inconceivable!!"
  11:10am
ffrr:

Warren Beatty supposedly can remember all the phone no.s of his former girlfriends. Glad you're back, trouble.
  11:11am
trouble:

annie: he loves the beach! biking, sand and water, what's not to love? and ice cream nearly every day. there are 3 great homemade places to choose from near the beach shack we rent.
  11:13am
annie:

wonderful!!!! a great year for him to remember summer vacation....he'll be writing about it in 30 years
  11:19am
still b/p:

"beach shack" = four-star phrase of hope, evocation and shoelessness.
  11:21am
seang:

we used to wet our fingers on surfing magazines
  11:25am
Cecile:

We had the Upper MIchigan version - the cabin at the lake you rent with the dock and the big carved-up table you play cribbage on.
  11:27am
don:

reminds me of my childhood cabin on carpenter lake.. also somewhere in michigan..
  11:30am
Carmichael:

Southern California for me. Total Beach Boy song content for two weeks each summer. Wait, did they sing about sunburn?
  11:33am
annie:

summer vacations for us were trips to kent camp grounds in connecticut..., ultimately rainy and damp,.. overall we did have fun..or one trip to keuka lake when i was 16 or so..
  11:53am
Mike East:

I used to go to LBI or Ohio for vacations as a kid. Morning all...joining the party late.
  11:54am
Parq:

We were mostly on Cape Cod and in the Adirondack High Peaks. Never at the Jersey Shore, though we lived in Paramus (go figure), but several multi-day visit to extended family in south NJ. All sorts of cabins, plus a few motel rooms.
  11:56am
sugarwolf:

I haven't been on a vacation in years.
  11:58am
seang:

nothing better than watching bad TV in a cheezy motel room
  11:59am
Parq:

Amen, sean, drinking a can of soda from the machine by the stairs.
