A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Germany wooped some ass.. they scored 4 goals in their first game
  9:36am
BSI:

that australia match was a slaughter
  9:38am
krebstar:

this is cool...
  9:41am
it's because:

slaughter.. ya.. but in australia's defense (not sure why..) they got that bogus red card that put them a man down with 20 or 30 minutes left..
  9:43am
BSI:

extremely bogus red card.
I know the judgements are harsher in the Cup, but that was just wacky.

Dead Corporate Eyes:

EM, is that the EM I know and love, or are you another EM?
  10:39am
Adrian in London:

Throw out the cassettes. They're no good. They're rotten. Give them to idiot hipsters with stupid haircuts. Mind you, I do have two huge boxes of them in the garage. ABout 40 live Japan shows there and I can't get rid of them, can I?
  10:39am
emily and patrick:

bring them to maine as a 4th of july gift for emily and patrick. our new car has a cassette player!
  10:39am
MAS:

no!!! how does an ostrich gets to america=
?
  10:40am
bryan:

It's super easy to digitize your mixtapes. I do think the meaningful ones should be kept, though. What will it hurt? Then again, as a historian I spend all my time in archives reading and loving all the things people in the past refused to throw away.
  10:40am
catpatz:

greece is losing to nigeria 0 - 1
  10:40am
Leigh:

Ah, mix tapes. Those were the days. Even mix cd's. Now it's mix mp3 zip files, but it's not the same.
  10:40am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

cassettes still rule and will remain after your digitized media pass away
  10:40am
Cecile:

MAS, they farm 'em here.
Terminator X actually has an ostrich farm in Virgina.
  10:40am
seang:

and one of Nigeria's players got a Red Card
  10:40am
BSI:

1-0 nigeria. Really stupid redcard offense just now for NGA
  10:41am
BSI:

seang = faster!
  10:41am
chris:

I inherited my Grandma's Buick for a few years recently and dusted off my cassettes and started listening to them in the car. They sounded so good!!!! I know it is a cliche but they sounded so inviting and warm and organic. Do not throw them away Trouble! I have already thrown some away which I regret... I know I am living in denial and I need to throw some more out but it seems so wrong.
  10:41am
MAS:

ok cecile, but not a natural one in the studio sitted with trouble!!??
  10:42am
Jennique:

Trouble,
I am in the same mixed tape dilemma. I bought some software to convert them to mp3s through my stereo. Still have yet to crack open the box to do it. Half my mixed tapes don't even have track listings. Dilemma indeed.
I read an article that a Generation X man had his son listen to an old school cassette playing walkman for one week. His son did not know what the METAL switch meant (thinking it had to do with the music genre) and did not realize it automatically flipped over the tape until a few days into it. Funny stuff.
  10:43am
Cecile:

No, but that would be cool, MAS.
  10:43am
Brian C.:

Because we're moving this summer, I'm going through the same agony with my cassettes. Had about 300--tried to weed em put--maybe tossed 20. And I don't even have a functioning cassette deck. Do have music-appreciating kids so, mebbe I'll keep em.
  10:43am
MAS:

:)
  10:43am

overall the officiating at WC has been good but the RSA goal keeper got sent off yesterday for basically touching another player. Penalty sure but red card??
  10:44am

I want a North Korea jersey ! they so crazy
  10:45am
seang:

Yeah for Greece, they just scored!
  10:45am
barney:

now 1-1 GRE-NGA
  10:45am
BSI:

yeh, there's been a few of those, DCP. Hell there was even a piece in some major media outlet about foreign officials getting educated on English cursing - to keep a watch on more spirited players like Rooney etc. ... oh hell, goal for greece...
  10:46am
dc pat:

ah crap, GO NIGERIA!!
  10:47am
mb:

I'm in the middle of the same project, Trouble. What software are you using. I'm using a cheap Intil from Radio Shack. Good results so far. Cassettes, FTW!
  10:48am
dc pat:

if the ref just let's the game go without interfering, you see fewer dives and players get more serious.

I broke out a demo cassette from my last band the other day and it sounded like it was under water--not sure if it was the tape or the deck... I have to transfer all my cassettes to HD.
  10:48am

Trouble - a movie for you:
C.R.A.Z.Y. - a Quebec film about a family of 5 boys, one gay (it's his story). It's fabulous - Montreal in the 70s, Bowie, poutine, Catholic mysticism, Charles Aznavour ,and Patsy Cline all figure heavily as plot points.
