A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Goood morning trouble.
  9:37am
Francis:

Bonjour Trouble,
I didn't know Francoise Hardy had sung in a Malcom Mclaren track.
Since tuesday in France, winter is coming back in May ! Snow, cold, fog,a sort of post miniature winter ! I'm with you just for few tracks before returning to my work where I haven't internet. But I'm happy,I 've just discovered I could listen to your last four shows on mp3, so I 'll be able to listen to Trouble everywhere !!
Great Marianne Dissard song (does she still live in Arizona ?)
  9:43am
moose:

this blue steel song is extraordinary
i heard it was used in a mcdonald's commercial
which broke my heart a bit!
  9:48am
Erella:

Is outrageous that the NJ governor would think of taking money out of the public library system. That is a huge chunk too. I'm amazed that this isn't getting more publicity. Mind boggling.
I bet his kids have adequate access to resources!
Libraries are important and of course valuable in ways that this short sighted guy has no idea about.
Feh!

omar souleyman is playing his first US show on June 19th in cleveland, slowhio... cma.org

Oh I get it: fahrenheit 451 / book burning etc... Election day here in the UK - praying that the Tories (Conservatives) don't get back in!
  9:54am
trouble:

Morning Trouble !
  10:01am
trouble:

bonjour francis! ola sebastian and stu....
  10:09am
Francis:

I was sure ,Trouble, you were going to play today a track of last Omar Souleyman album !! Last summer in a music festival,he had played in Paris before Deerhoof : Greg Saunier had loved his show but was a bit embarrassed to play after such a so particular,"festive","authentic" music even if I think Deerhoof's music is as joyous and festive (even more for me) ,in a diiferent way of course.
  10:13am
Cecile:

Unbelievable. Even our governor, the Scrooge-like Tim Pawlenty left some money for libraries.
  10:14am
chris from london:

trouble. we are all voting tactically to STOP CAMERON, but we don't want BROWN either, so we have to go CLEGG

Hung parliament!!! that would be fun

love
  10:16am
ERella:

Thanks Trouble. I got this link at the NJLA.org site www.savemynjlibrary.org

Reprehensible behaviour.
74% is outrageous.
10% would be unthinkable, but 74%?
What is wrong with this guy??
  10:19am
dc pat:

souleyman is playing with Konono No. ! on May 11th somewhere in Bristol you English types. That sounds like the show of the decade.
  10:19am
mysterio!:

love "if you're lookin' for trouble, then trouble is my name! " in the billy joe spears song!

you're the best, Trouble! xo!
  10:19am
seang:

all politicians are scumbags no matter what party!
  10:20am
erella:

Trouble, on David Byrne's radio blog, I heard Elini Mandel and friends do a song that I love. ----(You Don't Know) How Glad I Am by the Living Sisters.
Have you heard this?

I tried to buy the track on amazon and can't because I am not in the USA. Have you heard it? He changes the songs every month and it is on the May playlist.
  10:20am
dc pat:

excuse me for being dumb, but after Tony Blair, just what is the difference between the Labor and Tories??
  10:22am
Derek in MD:

I've been encountering this bizarre attitude lately that libraries are for "homeless people and losers who can't afford to *buy* books." Appalling!

When I pay my state taxes, I pretend all the money is going to Maryland's fantastic public library system.
  10:23am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

that's them tea partiers fer ya. I heart libraries.
  10:25am
BSI:

Derek: yep, I credit the Laurel Public Library (MD) for kicking my butt down the rabbit-hole of wild music -- it was Ornette Coleman's 'New York is Now!' -- I checked it out on a whim (age 11ish) and ... boom ... pretty eclectic item for a sleepy little suburban library in the mid '70s.
  10:26am
dc pat:

I hear libraries too. My library burned down couple years back but they're rebuilding it.
  10:27am
dc pat:

heart not hear....funny though
  10:28am
Chris - Bristol:

Well said London Chris - "I agree with Clegg". Hang the lot of them!

@DC Pat: very little I'm afraid, no longer the clear ideological divide in the search to appeal to middle ground. Although the Tories must be stopped! Not familiar with Souleyman but I like his name - vote Souleyman!
  10:28am
Parq:

BSI, of course that's exactly why the right wingers find cuts to libararies so attractive.
  10:30am
Cecile:

I have to say that the best thing the City of Mpls did was to merge their libraries in with Hennepin County's. They are now open 7 days a week and have a coffee bar, like the other Hennepin Cty libraries. It's pretty sweet.
  10:32am
BSI:

Then of course here in DC, while the renovations are going on @ the Mt.Pleasant library, they finally opened the temporary location & some witless dweeb drove his SUV into the back of the place. We're doomed!

And Cecile: if that utopian library scene is a vision of things to come in our New Socialist Nightmare, sign me up!
  10:33am
Cecile:

BSI: I put you down twice.
  10:33am
dc pat:

Chris: get yer ass over to the Metropolis on the 11th at all costs.
  10:36am
fishmonkeystew:

Sun Ra! Shazaaaaam!
  10:37am
sugarwolf:

people who complain about the cost of local libraries make no sense to me.
  10:41am
Parq:

Sugarwolf, there is nothing about populist politics in American nowadays that doesn't scare me -- especially when, more and more, the rants are presented at gunpoint.
  10:43am
seang:

Liberty? are you out there? we used to drive ice cream trucks in Maine
  10:44am
sugarwolf:

i love crazy letters to the editor saying we don't need new libraries, we have the internet!! have these people seen the internet lately??
  10:45am
mb:

Ahhhhh! Dub me delightfully Troubs.
  10:46am
dc pat:

..and where do vast numbers of people access the Internets? uh, the library.
  10:47am
ERella:

I read yesterday that Barbara Bush kept the private library in her home managed by using the dewey decimal system.

Sugarwolf. I am not sure I understand your implication.
Do you really think the internet could ever replace a public library system? Did you bump your head, friend?
  10:47am
Kevin in Austin:

Wait, their name is "dub"? That will be impossible to Google.
  10:54am
sugarwolf:

erella, no, i think people who think the internet can replaces libraries are a little misguided.

i
  10:54am
BSI:

classic Rafi!!!
  10:55am
trouble:

even worse kevin there is no name, the dub was referring to the style of ripping other musics and doing your own thing with it, no credits
  11:02am
brian:

kevin, trouble.. is it errol brown that does balistic queen? http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/treasure-isle-dub-vol-2/id333939800
  11:02am
north guinea hills:

I actually have that Treasure Isle dub lp and a few others in the series. On one of the other lps, the dubs are credited to errol browne aka dubmaster. I imagine this one is done by him as well, although this was duke reid's imprint, it's hard to know.
  11:08am
Chris - Bristol:

I think that the original version of that dub track was "Queen majesty" by the Techniques if that helps?
  11:08am
herb:

FUN BOY THREE being played! and i've got my fb3 pin on now (via tag sale, 25cents). and, boo hiss gov. christie. new york public library just mailed out a "help, budget cuts" letter. libraries are too big to fail!
  11:08am
Kevin in Austin:

Well... it sounds good anyway :)
  11:12am
dc pat:

"that thing bands do to get ready"= smoke another cigarette, chug some more vodka, go out and get a slice, take a nap...
  11:25am
Sweet Luke:

where that live music at?
  11:28am
?:

whoa--this tune popped up on my iPod this very morning. no kidding. like, cosmic, man.
  11:32am
seang:

cool thing at Boing Boing--cutting libraries:
http://www.boingboing.net/2010/05/05/cutting-libraries-in.html
  11:33am
Janna:

did you guys see Young @ Heart? I'll never forget the scene where they sing this song at the penitentiary
  11:50am
Cecile:

The band sounds great.
  11:56am
jen v.:

wow, this cover!
  11:59am
north guinea hills:

The world would be a much nicer place if there were more yoko covers.
  12:00pm
eRella:

Where is holly miranda playing in toronto? They sound great
  12:01pm
erella:

"Cutting libraries in a recession is like closing supermarkets during a famine"

That's great.
