I taught high school back during the "Spuds Mackenzie" days. Kids weren't allowed to wear Spuds shirts to school because they promoted alcohol use.
  12:47pm
Ike:

Spuds MacKenzie?! Yeah, when a dog tells me to drink crappy beer, I *always* listen! Psych.
  12:48pm
Joe:

It must've worked, as I'm only aware of Spuds Mackenzie through his Futurama parody, Slurms Mackenzie.
  12:49pm

I want a shirt with Spuds on the front, Joe the Camel on the back...those should be a big hit with the PTA

annie:

well, it was a logo from an anime film, maybe it was ghost in the shell? anyway it was the top half of a woman's body, no shirt.. just enough to suggest.....
  12:54pm
Parq:

If it's Spuds parodies ya like, dig up some of the late 80s exemplars of Bloom County, in which Spuds came out as a girl-dog, shortly after joining the cast of regulars. (Memorable line, to Opus: "Sure you don't wanna beer Otis? Flushes out the system like Ty-D-Bowl.")
  12:55pm
dc diane:

nice, you should find one of those boob t-shirts that the Pistols use to wear for him next.
  12:56pm
Joe:

We had a similar issue at our high school with retro G.I. Joe t-shirts with guns on them. The admin. wouldn't budge, even after we pointed out that they were laser guns, only used to shoot bad guy robots and drug dealers.
  12:56pm
annie:

actually i liked the te very much, the school thought it was porn.. what did they know? dc diane, he is 25 now, old enough to speak out ....
  12:56pm

  1:00pm

  1:00pm
dc lonely:

  1:02pm
Bad Diane:

I wore my "If it Ain't Stiff it Ain't Worth a Fuck" T to piss off the man. It worked.
  1:03pm
Doug from DC:

That man. He has no sense of humor.
  1:04pm
dc uncle:

that's another good one. That'd probably be grounds for paddling in school.
  1:04pm
Cecile:

eh, high school.
I might have to go to an all-class reunion to get a body count out of morbid curiousity next year.
  1:04pm
Bad Diane:

  1:05pm

  1:06pm

  1:07pm
Joe:

Talking out of turn, that's a paddlin'

Starin' at my sandals, that's a paddlin'
Paddlin' the school canoe...
oh, you better believe that's a paddlin'
  1:07pm
Bad Diane:

Me and Billy from Philly (the lead guit) were!
  1:09pm
Doug from DC:

Awesome show. Tim Kaiser's electronics are really brilliantly done. Bent circuits, parts of children's toys and bowed metal instruments with built-in pickups. He has a CD-R release in a 4" film cannister, like the PiL metal box reissue.
  1:09pm
uncle lonely:

this diane columbia song is fresh out the toaster!
  1:09pm
annie:

doug, i agree, i'm hyped up.. like nixon on drugs
  1:11pm
dc diane:

  1:14pm
gerardo:

hooola, liiiiiz!, tanto tiempo

tuning back in "real time" at last

("growing pains", i watched this sitcom for a year! - first time i hear the titles song in full)
  1:14pm
Diane from DC:

Yeah, the 18 string banjo was something to see, expecially when he bowed it. And his modified guitar is fretless. Both performances were interesting visually as well as musically, just seeing these instruments being played was a trip.
  1:14pm
1mckrs:

This was on TV? Wow. Bad even for TV.
  1:15pm
jeremy, the listener:

LB love this show.
  1:15pm
dc pat:

I'm w/ u. lonely. My son would love a band called the Firemen.
  1:16pm
Cecile:

Exactly.
I saw him when he trotted out the guitar with a hubcap for a resonator. Pretty amazing.
  1:20pm
annie:

cecile i checked out and tagged for fun those bands..front porch..liquor pigs and spider john koerner.. what fun they are!! a real hoot.
  1:20pm
Cecile:

ok, why does the Bulb label sound familiar to me?

Annie, they are great. I've missed it a couple of years, but they usually play a spring outdoor fest and a great time is had by all.
  1:21pm
uncle diane:

  1:25pm

BLOWING MY MIND!
  1:34pm
samuel:

just tuned in- any word on when red dawn II plays?
  1:36pm
Petri:

Hi, I´ve got the original bass guitar of this great finnish punk band, but is in the pawn shop...
  1:36pm
Bad Diane:

That's right Annie - I wrote a thesis once proposing that that was one of the most "Pop" events of our history... or something like that.
  1:38pm
annie:

BD- yeah, one of the first to awaken our senses of current events.. relating it to our own reality. i was 11
  1:39pm
Joe:

If the JFK assassination was pop... I guess you could call the Ford attempts Punk. High profile, but ultimately a failure.
  1:39pm
annie:

joe, word up. yeah
  1:40pm
Bad Diane:

I like that Joe! Whattabout Regan?
  1:40pm
Petri:

Hi again, I live now in the Tampere, Finland, and this great finnish rock band Eppu Normaali is from here, still kicking..
  1:42pm
Joe:

I'm tempted to say hip-hop, because there were a bunch of innocent bystanders. The iraqi attempt on Bush attempt can be post-punk, because it was extremely influential later, but not alot of people knew about it at the time.
  1:44pm
Cecile:

Well, I'm biased because I lived at the time and also kind of liked Ford but punk/Ford:
misunderstood at the time, more solid than believed, and its time was far too short.
  1:45pm
north guinea hills:

i've been busy at work, and missed everythingdid i hear the awesome color kids were in? if so, here's a big hello and hug for michael and allison!
  1:47pm

As a long time CT resident, I can assure you that the four corners of CT are so different from each other that there is no option but to divvy it up into pieces.
