A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

  9:56am
Hatch:

My girlfriend is going to be Little Edie for Halloween this year, and she wants me to be Big Edie. But I think maybe I'll be Al Maysles instead. Or perhaps Zombie Big Edie.
  10:01am
trouble:

hatch, i think you should be the marble fawn...the studly local guy who is their handy man of sorts...
  10:02am
Tom ( the Bactrian Support Network):

Think I'm gonna be Pataki this year .....
  10:03am
Hatch:

Or maybe zombie David Maysles?
  10:06am
sugarwolf:

I am probably going to be Zoe Tamerlis from Ms. 45. I have a spare nun's costume (as you do) but I need to get a toy gun.

I thought about going as Edith Prickly, but I can't find any leopard print jackets.
  10:07am
sugarwolf:

the big question: who is DJ Icepack going as?
  10:09am
stingy d:

two muffins in an oven. first muffin turns to the second muffin and says, boy it sure is hot in here, and the second muffin turns back and says...
LOOK! a talking muffin!
  10:10am
li'l boby:

I think i'm going to be my mommy this year...she's scary, yet playful and girlish with a hint of ditz....i'll have to shrink a bit,but halloween demands sacrifice, doesn't it?
  10:13am
tTttt:

Edith Prickley but missing the leopard print?

Add the print to a solid with bits of fabric or marker. At the very least, you could go as her clone.
  10:13am
stingy d:

i am going to be ed kemper/shawn kemp
they were both 6'10" so it should be easy to pull off
  10:14am
Jamesie:

Hi Lynn - Jamesie here... I am volunteering at Resonance104.4 FM nowadays but I still listen in... lots of love to you and the two guys....
  10:18am

gumby:

That Putin is a whacked Caveman type.
  10:44am
Laurie:

New name for your show: "Is This the Modern World??" Or just change the inflection: "THIS Is the Modern World??"
  10:47am
matt in Indy:

I agree about texting Trouble. I guess I'm just too old, but I usually don't get it. There are definitely situations where it makes more sense . . . but usually I find communication works most efficiently with a combination of email and phone calls!!
  10:47am
trouble:

laurie I like that. you've come up with even better name for my new game show!
  10:49am
Jenniqua:

Texting would be easier if the buttons weren't so teeny weeny. I feel like I have gorilla hands when I try to do it. It is not for me. Wasn't there a train driver in California who crashed because he was texting? I think he was killed. See? Texting KILLS!
  10:49am
Lucky:

Laurie-Of course it's the modern world! Haven't you heard? Sarah Palin has pointed out how any examination of history is a foolish waste of time. It's all about the future and we ALL know that the past has no effect on the future.
  10:50am
stingy d:

i love delta 5! way to be trouble! good eye good eye! look alive everybody!
  10:50am
?:

apart from the interface (cellphone versus computer), can someone please explain to me if there is really a difference between "texting" and "emailing"? (sorry, dumb question, but I'm over 30 . . .) can't we just use a single word? like "typing"?
  10:50am
johN:

I choose not to text also. That could change if I get something fancy like the android or iphone. It's just such a pain in the ass with a normal phone.
  10:51am
Awakey:

wha..wait...wait, dude...what? Oh wow musta dozed off a bit, but now I'm feeling GOOD.
  10:51am
you:

can interfere in my crisis!
  10:52am
GP:

Texting is so 2007, I send messages with my mind. I even mimics my manual misspellings...see
  10:53am
Swami:

Hey Stingy: Difference being, Kemp was better going over the top. Kemper? He'd run right through you. Wit a knife.
  10:53am
Harbey:

Did anyone see Vivian Girls got Best New Music on Pitchfork? They'll be huge now...
  10:54am
stingy d:

i'd say kemper was more over the top... but you know... you're right too
  10:55am
gumby:

I don't even have a cell phone. I find "in touch" is not my favorite place. I have a hiking partner who climbs to the top of mountains and pulls out the cell phone to see if he has bars. I climb up there to escape.
  10:56am
sugarwolf:

I like texting, because I hate talking to people on the phone.
  10:57am
GP:

Don't normally care for Woody Allen, but he had a term for the perpetually wired..."Connectivity A**holes"
  11:04am
gumby:

my boss gave us corporate "who Moved my Cheese" books and the guy says you should be available on vacation. I think he should be isolated from society. The last thing I want is to be reminded of my miserable job on a beautiful beach,
  11:08am
sahak:

woohoo hatch!
  11:09am
Swami:

I guess I agree. . .Kemper was so over the top he bordered on camp; managed to avoid the whole "kitschy" thing that Rifkin and Dahmer fell into. I still think Kemp rebounded better.
  11:10am
GP:

Gumby...just keep the red stapler!
  11:13am
stingy d:

kemper was a force on the wing. but kemp was a better darts player and despite significantly havign less sex, has more kids.
  11:14am
gumby:

Kemp could rebound, but could he shoot the J?
  11:16am
Ike:

Gumby, I will never be available to any workplace when on vacation. That's psychotic.

I take my trashy low-budget prepaid crack phone hiking, but for emergencies only. I hate phones. Also for meeting up with people in crowded places, etc.

I wish I could be volunteering at FMU now. Sigh.
  11:16am
gumby:

this set is making me feel good all over
  11:16am
stingy d:

kemp developed a nice touch from 15-18 feet.
but kemper had the longer career. ooofah!
  11:18am
Adrian:

Gumby, I'm barely available when I *am* at work. I'm busy going through a period of having a three-day weekend at the moment. I feel vaguely human now.
  11:19am
Swami:

Well, Kemp kept his "relations" to the living. . . that certainly helps with conception, though Kemper never had to worry about the safe aspects. Ewww. I'm done with this line of thought. Blech.

Super amazing set today - my ears thank you, Trouble!

Parq:

My thanks to Trouble (and all of her colleagues) for giving the new Juana Molina so much air time. It was FMU who turned me on to Miss Mo in the first place when I won a copy of "Tres Cosas" as an MC price during marathon a few years back. It's a pleasure to hear the new album get such generous exposure.
  11:29am
Jenniqua:

Ah, l'amour toujours! Merci pour cette chanson!
  11:31am
GP:

Is this Daniel Johnston? For some reason my lsit is not updating?
  11:31am
li'l boby:

What a great set...Outside my window, not a minute ago, a hawk lazily harassing (corralling?) a flock of pigeons...Just south of hamilton park, imagine that...is beto villares on deck?...I'm guilty , i text..but I can't do it while I'm walking...I've actually started to enjoy it.
  11:32am
Adrian:

On a French music note, Ms T, there's going to be a new Françoiz Breut album coming out on 3 November.
  11:32am
GP:

OK, the playlist is updating again for me..
  11:32am
Carmichael:

GP, I thought the same thing. Must be a Johnston wanna-be ....
  11:33am
stingy d:

i text all the time and never talk on the phone
texting is free calling is limited.
  11:33am
Patrick:

hey trouble!! its indian summer here in maine. now would be good time to come for a visit!!

Ciao Bella!
  11:34am
Parq:

I personally prefer talking, but I have a wife and kid who both prefer texting. I go along with it for them, but if I've got more than a few words to say, I call.
  11:35am
GP:

Thanks Trouble for the update!
  11:35am
Parq:

Texting comes in handy when you don't want people around you to hear what you're saying. Personally, I find I hear entirely too much of other people's phone calls nowadays.
  11:35am
Carmichael:

Hey, wait: that actually IS Johnston on vocals!!
  11:35am
stingy d:

yea i have no outward directed prefeernce

but cell phones also have a bad sound in my ear.
  11:36am
Lucky:

10-09-08! We are going backwards!!!!!!
  11:39am
R. P.:

Texting is less annoying to the recipient, because folks don't feel interrupted, or that they need to reply right away. Also, I don't have to worry about reception. But the 160 character limit is starting to be a problem...
  11:40am
trouble:

i say yes to going backwards since our society seems positevly intent on NOT going forward. And the clothes and hairstyles were better. although i will miss indoor plumbing
  11:42am
Carmichael:

My grandma was "Miss Indoor Plumbing" of Dubuque, 1944.
  11:43am
Adrian:

Just as long as we don't go back to a time before hair conditioner
  11:44am
patrick:

good morning Jersey City!!!
  11:45am
Jenniqua:

Just remembered a song by a band in the '80s called Face to Face. The song was 10,9,8. Here are the key lyrics:

10-9-8
I'm always counting down
You feel the pressure when you're under the gun
6-5-4
I'm always counting down
Isn't it funny, I never get to one
  11:48am
Parq:

Ah me, 10-9-8. That's a good one. I still remember a spring day in my senior year of college when, in the early afternoon, the time and date were 12:34, 5-6-78.
  11:53am
Parq:

We get another one in two years. Around dinner time on a clammy day in early spring, it will be 6:54, 3-2-10. Okay, I'll stop now.
  11:54am
GP:

How bout a palindrome date: 10-11-01, My brain will explode if I try to think of another example.
  11:55am
?:

11-22-11
  11:55am
trouble:

oh please don't mention Palin
  11:55am
sahak:

or tonite when its 10-9-8 7:6......D'OH!!!!
  11:56am
Carmichael:

Good Lord, could you guys concentrate your efforts to cracking the Zodiac Killer's 340 cipher letter?
  11:56am
GP:

You have fallen into the mathlete zone
  11:56am
Laurie:

Oh, I'm so excited! I'm seeing Yelle at Miami's Polish American Club on Friday. It's actually a Polish American Club. The website's in Polish and everything.

...We don't have very many good music venues in Miami. :'(
  11:57am
Parq:

By an almost interesting coincidence, Irving Plaza was once a Polish American club.
  11:58am
Carmichael:

Apparently not .... :-)
  11:59am
stingy d:

the only kiler's today are of the non-trendy variety.
  12:01pm
Ike:

AA!
  12:42pm
Niki:

Did I manage to miss the liveness AGAIN!!! Just as well there's the archive...it must be a combination of time difference and working too hard!!
