Favoriting Acid Jazz Hands with Bronwyn Bishop: Playlist from April 19, 2024 Favoriting

Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

Ian Hobson up there is quite an accomplished classical pianist with a large discography.

Per OED, "sloth" is pronounced in British English as

/sləʊθ/

...i.e., with a long o.

Ian Hobson used to be (may still be) at the U of Illinois, when I hung out there, and I heard him in performance many times. He led an ensemble as well as played piano. I cannot fairly judge classical performers, but he seemed very good to me. I still have a record of two of his.

That Patricio Manns track appears to have been composed by him. A Chilean music journal obituary from late 2021 states (albeit in Spanish) that "he continued recording, for example, the album of ballads and boleros Porque te amé (Alerce, 1999)..." The reverse of the CD credits him for the writing.
