Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from April 12, 2024 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

hm, interesting. I only got exposed intermittently to the really good stuff, growing up in a mostly white suburb just to the west of Chicago. But as I got older I found and was pointed toward the really good bands and clubs. I think I heard more commercially oriented blues from the 70s growing up. And, I mean, who am I to judge. I know BB King has a LOT more going for him than just his voice. I guess what I mean is these "blues masters" are really masters, the more of their music I hear.

always had much better luck with tomatoes directly sown outside, even with a shorter growing season. i think the plants are tougher, and more acclimated to that soil.
the opposite is so with celery and cilantro.

I was listening to this the other night, along with other versions of the song, starting with Bud Powell's. I had the thought that I might request Dinah Washington's 1954 live LA recording for the next request show. Will it stay in my head that long? Nah.

the best luck i've ever had with cilantro is in pots. then i can move them around - into full shade on hot days, partial shade on moderate days.
still they bolt, but they have a pretty good run.

mint is the worst. The way we wound up controlling it was to get an old small bathroom sink and bury to just over the lip. The sink is deep enough for the roots to grow and the sink sides keep it from spreading.

i did NOT get the ink spots when i first heard it. i worked in a store, and the owner would go on binges. so i heard 2-3 ink spots cassettes over and over and over
...and over - for a month or 2.
this did not work with all his binges, but i grew to Love ink spots.
- although i did make fun of the spoken middles, that were ALL delivered with exactly the same inflections; and the term, "linger"! ...and i made a tape collage of all the ink spots song intros!
