Maybe I just listen to good DJs around here who play the better ones... Also of course the thing like saying some Rawk Gittarist reminded you of Hendrix became redundant to some extent - somone who influenced an entire fields to the point they sort of define it. Then again - people who sounded too much like TheBeatles or Hendrix had a hard time of it for quite a while... One of those ways maybe Rawk & Jazz are not so much alike...

I don’t mind the imitation or the devotees, if you’re going to worship a musician it might as well be Coltrane . I can recognize coltranes tone right away though . I’m never fooled .

I think it definitely happens in the jazz world too. I see people talk smack about Joe Henderson calling him a Coltrane impersonator. Not that I think it’s a bad thing to be influenced by Coltrane.

His tone was a thing of great humanity & wonder. Before even *what* he played. Just this morning on the Drummer stream was a Henderson track - he really gets close. The whole band even. So every once in a while I *almost* wonder why some track sounds like Trane ...but I don't know the tune yet...

i don't *think* i'm fooled... but, i usually know it's not Trane beforehand so it's hard to say. ...or i can tell immediately by other aspects of the sound, ie "production"...
but maybe i'm not as sharp as i sometimes think.

Yeah in another sense - it's a lot like people influenced by Hendrix. They pick up on one aspect of his playing - but not others. Which is natural enuff. But it's not the many-faceted jewel the real thing is.
