The only times I had heard Beyoncé before was to check out talk she ripped off Pipilotti Rist (not really) and Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker (most definititely, for sure, totally)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm

I heard the chatter about that sort of thing, but never really held it against her. Not sure why that is. I've always been in awe of her voice. This album is goosebumps inducing while under headphones IMO.

But I love Beyoncé because I'm a Unicode advocate. Whenever some music executive type says "who cares about these funny characters" I can say "right, who cares about Beyoncé"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm

Only on WFMU can we go from Beyoncé to former Swell Maps members.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:19pm

I don't hold it against her (she probably has no idea who De Keersmaeker is), and it spurred ATDK to release her choreography to another part of the same piece for people to do on their own.
But it was still brutal, one of the biggest choreographers today being not even a speck compared to the power of the queen

I wonder how much of that sort of situation is due to those around the megastar. Supposedly U2 were unaware of the legal action taken against Negativland, at least that was what they claimed after word went public about the devastation it left on Negativland.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:27pm
fred:

↳ Krys O. @1:22
I'd say a lot to all of it. Beyoncé's choreographer did a total rip off and knew they had the power to get away with it. U2/Negativland was different, Negativland did poke the bear (good for them)

A couple of years ago a young composer at work had a Negativland-inspired show (he gave kazoos to the audience, a great move), but he opened by saying "I know none of you know about Negativland"
So I had a chat with him a week later. He was dismissive at first, then started taking notes. I mean, the guy hadn't even heard of People Like Us! What are they teaching in art/music school?

"Interwar period

Another wave of Polish migration, this time in search of manual work, took place between the two World Wars, when thousands of Poles were hired as contract workers to work temporarily in France. Numerous Polish farmers emigrated to the southwest of France in the 1920s, as the mass casualties of World War I left that region critically short of farm labor.[6] After the outbreak of World War II Polish refugees also fled German or Soviet occupation.[7] "
