The Radio Is Broken is a three-hour spelunk through the canyons and fissures of humanity's collective unconscious. It sounds as if a field recording of the Culture Industry were a sonic juggernaut barreling down a rickety track—except that tunnel ahead is just painted onto a sheer cliff wall. With occasional forays into what might pass for "normal" music. Prerequisite journey: Cratedigger's Lung

Need some love for Claw Hammer and Zeke. The latter are playing Sacramento in late May, and I'm taking my family, including kids 18 and 13. In later May they'll be up the street from my place, no kids allowed. Zeke, twice in just over a week.

Speaking of artists, I just read "Out of Now" chronicling the year-long works of Tehching Hsieh:
-- He spent a year in an 11' x 6' cage without reading, writing or speaking
-- He spent a year in Manhattan where he never went into an enclosed space (building, car, subway, tent etc.)
-- He spent a year where he punched a time clock every hour on the hour
-- He spent a year tethered by an 8-foot rope to another artist, and they never touched each other.
-- For his last year-long piece, he didn't view, think about or create art.

Not all masochists desire pain. Many of the self-identified masochists I know do want to explore the limits of pain and experience extreme modes of being. Many of them also see masochism as: an act of service, a way to transcend the physical plane, a way to connect to something larger than themselves. And, if that requires pain, they'll endure it to achieve their goals.
