I remember carrying groceries for an elderly woman who repaid me with stories. She was a seamstress who once did a dress for Elizabeth Taylor, worked at the Paris opera (she was eloquent about the challenges of making dresses that would fit different breast sizes and wouldn't slip on dancers). I haven't seen her since COVID, and she was 96 at the time, so I don't expect to see her again, but these hours where time well spent

Aunt Donna went on the 27th. Really the period at the end of a very hard year.

The women on my mom's side of the family are long-lived: my grandmother was 97 when she died, and her sister made it to 94. Aunt Donna was 96. Only my mom went young.

Some talk could have confused any passerby who would have eavesdropped. She was very technical about breast texture, shape and size, as she had to be in her work. I wasn't embarrassed or confused, having heard how tough it can be for dancers to find a dress that fits, but it's a weird conversation to have in a street

Listened to the archive on Sunday. An extraordinary show, Miss Kryss, maybe the best FFRC ever. Very poignant for me, as I turn 68 on Friday. I've got two years until I'm 70. I expect it to be terribly strange.
