"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

Absolutely. It might be mildly traitorous of me to say this since I am actually English, but I've never got on with the full English -- 1) it's far too much, and 2) a lot of the main ingredients I don't actually eat. A cup of coffee and a couple slices of toast usually does the job

I feel thankful that I was of the time where I got to hear Mahavishnu Orchestra live. I was going to college in New Bedford. We'd hear them in Boston , an hour away or Providence 45 minutes, and once both. Always " How is this even possible". The Leo Kotke then M O, then Zappa at the Providence Hockey rink was a stand out w both bands trying to out do each other

Zappa: 'A person woud be a moron not to appreciate McLaughlin’s technique. The guy has certainly found out how to operate a guitar as if it were a machine gun. But I’m not always enthusiastic about the lines I hear or the ways in which they’re used. I don’t think you can fault him, though, for the amount of time and effort it must have taken to play an instrument that fast. I think anybody who can play that fast is just wonderful. And I’m sure 90% of teenage America would agree, since the whole trend in the business has been “faster is better.”'

Living Color played at The Bottle and Cork during their this century reunion tour. I asked a professional guitarist who plays w established national artists occasionally, what he thought of Reids' playing . After apologizing THREE times to be criticizing another guitarist's playing he summed it up perfectly. "He's hating every note he's playing, and has to get rid of them as fast as possible."... It's the hookup he's using IMO. Far far too many effects. I think plugged into a high gain Tube Amp like for Metal , his playing would be 100% better. One of the many Clapton tours I've caught, you could tell Eric was having trouble expressing himself because of the exact same thing. In his case Lace p ups and a too compressed amp.
