⦿Sun in ♐︎Sagittarius, Year of Earth 🐇Hare
' James Carroll Booker III (December 17, 1939 – November 8, 1983) was an American New Orleans rhythm and blues keyboardist. Flamboyant in personality and style, and possessing extraordinary technical skill on the piano, he was dubbed "the Black Liberace".
His 1960 recording "Gonzo" reached No. 43 on the Billboard magazine record chart and No. 3 in R&B, and he toured internationally in the 1970s. After being mainly a rhythm and blues artist, Booker later fused this genre with jazz and with popular music such as that of the Beatles, playing these in his signature backbeat. His influence is profound in the New Orleans music scene, where his renditions and originals are most often performed. '

⦿Sun in ♐︎Sagittarius, Year of Water 🐓Rooster
' Walter Booker (December 17, 1933 – November 24, 2006) was an American jazz musician. A native of Prairie View, Texas, Booker was a reliable bass player and an underrated stylist. His playing was marked by voice-like inflections, glissandos and tremolo techniques. '

Mapleshade Records is an American jazz record company and independent record label founded by Pierre Sprey in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, United States, in 1990.

I actually didn't know, or had forgotten, that Walter Booker was married to Bertha Hope (who is still alive, by the way). I trust you will also mention Maria Booker at some point. (P.S.: It's nice to hear a selection from Rollins's "Alfie" album other than the title track for a change!)

One day I was at Gagosian in L.A. when this yellow cab pulled up and Jean Michael Basquiat got out. He was wearing a filthy baggy tee shirt and was with this obviously stoned out of her mind punk girl holding a greasy paper bag. They marched into the gallery and Larry intercepted them holding a framed drawing. "I get half!" Basquiat demanded. I was the only other person in the gallery and they were right in front of me. They were really going at it, then Gagosian noticed me watching, so he ushered them into his office and slammed the door.

I saw Dylan again recently. He's 82, and about as tall as his grand piano. He may not've been that good, but he was great, godlike, aloof, indifferent to all circumstance, making it clear that whatever happens in the audience or the world, he'll keep singing and playing just like this til the day he dies. The previous time I saw him was 15+ years ago. Back then, too, there were questions about whether he was too old. The world keeps asking, and all the while, he keeps banging it out. "I'm just like Ann Frank, like Indiana Jones…" and maybe now like Louis Armstrong, too.
