NY archival photos are a force/resource for good.
I helped someone -- maybe, if he gets the reply info -- with a fairly quick photo archive check earlier this evening. A comment from a few years ago on Ephemera New York website inquired about the name of a sporting goods store at a particular Brooklyn intersection, tied to his dad's memory of a baseball glove purchase. Found iiiiit -- on heavy duty site of 1940s street-view photo documentation of NY.

"Gun Library" reminds me of working in a record store in the late '70s, when foggy-headed dudes would ask for assistance with the smoking paraphernalia. Cortlands are native to NY. They were developed in 1898 near Cortland County. I like them because their flavor is a nice balance between sweet and tart, and they stay crisp fairly long into the season.

2 favorites: fuji, macoun; honeycrisp next. pink lady and gala are pretty good but usually softer than i like.
cortlands are sometimes said to be best for pies but not great eating. i don't know why; maybe less sweet? or maybe something about the texture?
i never see them or i'd try one.
  11:08pm

The Dummerston Apple Pie Festival, which is famous around here and has been going for ~50 years, uses Cortlands in their pies. But I find them to be an excellent eating apple. At this point in the season they might be getting a little soft, though...

most flip phones are pocket computers (dumb phone) so -no benefit.
i have what's designed to be a "smart phone" but it's not engaged with the internet, so it's a phone.
and because gobble is at least as under the outhouse scummy as apple, the camera doesn't work. they designed it - taking a solid cue from apple - so it won't work without "google play" activated.

so it's just a phone. and a shitty one at that. (scamsung)

I'm thinking about where Death brings the deceased in Terry Pratchett's books. And, HK's walk through the black land of black sand will be very long. Very, very long. Interminable, really. Oh, and Death has something to say about this, too: "YES. HK'S WALK WILL BE VERY, VERY LONG." And now Death has resumed petting his cat.

i only use apps i can control, or have their backcode available. that's why my phone is not quite a spyphone...(and then there's the jailbreak options...)

Sorry, Sam, that your show is airing during If You Lose Your Kissinger. I do think we need to ponder his legacy, not because we (meaning I) pick sides: KISSINGER BAD!...but because he was a motive force in America, for which we have some responsibility.

I'm agnostic as to hell. Doesn't much matter to me. If HK is there suffering, okay. If not, that's okay, too. I just don't want anymore of his ilk. Sadly, I have no authority in this respect. We will very likely have to endure more.
