We’d go to Ann Arbor to hang with the cool kids and they’d come to Kalamazoo to hang out in the woods around a fire and drink beer with us.

It was. I have fond memories of the fun we had together but also appreciate in hindsight how supportive we were of each others scenes. It kind of epitomizes the what I love about the Midwest of “hey, we like the same stuff, let’s hang out!”. The Ann Arbor kids were definitely hipper than us and we were goons that would go on pool raids. I think it was a bit of a mutual appreciation society.

Her writing is so strong, and def evocative. Sometimes in a minimalist psychedelic noir style that’s mind blowing. That particular essay made feel so queasy yet intrigued enough that I felt like I’d already visited the Haight in ‘67.

He absolutely is! I was wearing my shirt from the Mike and Micky show from a couple of years before, and the bass player commented, and said "Yeah, I'm in the band." And I've heard that line a million times before, so I said, "Sure you are!" But then I recognized him and I said, "Holy shit! You ARE the bass player!" And that kicked off our conversation.
