when I lived in japan, my friend's mother was from oz, so, we planned a trip, w/ a stopover in christchurch to visit his aunt. However, the us navy plane that was to take us, sort of crashed in the philippines on its way to japan (the pilot was a neighbor). so, that trip was scrubbed (still haven't been...)
