Things planted deep grow like weeds.
Later - I lived in Santa Barbara, CA for several years of my adult life. This was all the way across the USA, diagonally. & of course - into quite different Eras. Much exposure & friendship with West Coast people identifying as Radical even...
In one respect - I am utterly Progressive intellectually & 'politically' - & in another - & quite comparable to Racism, in this respect anyhow (that comparison has both its utility & distinct limits...) - I am afraid my evolution is continual regarding Homophobia & not perfect. I mean - in terms of what remains deep inside of me.
There have been notable stations along the way ...such as a queer friend of mine getting drunk @ a party & sitting in my lap & fawning like a flamer ...& my hostile reaction. Lesson here: 'Political' exhortations are one thing ...living experience, comfort zones - & familiarity are another level of situations... This was very instructive to me - about me...
There are significant challenges regarding Social Identity. It's one thing to say you aren't prejudiced against anyone ...but when a Crossdresser sits next to you @ the Bar in a smalltown - how are you then ??...
Ultimately - I think the prime antidote to Programming is Experience.

...but in our supposed Western Democratic Two Party Systems ...it's One Step Forward, Two Steps Back all the time as we oscillate from one Party to the Other ...as Politicians of both Parties keep their jobs & stay in Power.
I expend all my energy all the time exhorting more ideological Leftists to Vote - like, @ all (as Lennon said, the 'one inch' of difference between Parties may likely be the difference someone *breaths in*)
...when my real argument is with the so-called 'Liberal' Parties for letting go of their end of the rope in tug-of-war of the Political Spectrum too much & far too often.
Remember, for instance, when the Democratic Party in the USA could say it was the Party of the Poor &/or the Peaceful ??
Frankly - there's been no possibility for praxis of Real Political Evolution in the USA since RFK's head hit the floor in the Ambassador Hotel 1968.
