Hello, all! Can anyone guess today's mystery LP-under-the-cassettes? It's actually the back cover -- but it's a pretty well-known record, so...

PS: I think I used this one before....

German becomes easier because we've heard more of it (from TV, movies and songs). Technically (in terms of word and phoneme distance) Dutch is probably closer. But we never hear it (until we go there, and are totally confused).

Hiya, Worm Man! I am definitely familiar with Lukas Simonis -- I'm a big fan -- but I haven't heard Stepmother. Their album "Calvary Greetings" has been on my wantlist a long time.

Little Fyodor:

Hi Tony! That last tape was pretty cool. Reminded me of a review Walls Of Genius once received saying that we were good enough to make normal music but lacked the mental balance to do so! Haha!! These Josef folks are starting out very cool and interesting, too! Funny, I know I've heard their name before, but I never knew they were a band not a solo act, so I must not have known them all that well! This music doesn't sound familiar, either. So hey, I thought I knew Josef K. Noyce, but instead I'm learning something new!! And happy to do so!!

ARB:

I'm new, why are they not archived?
Avatar 1:13pm
Tony Coulter:

@ ARB: It's because I play whole tapes, and sometimes demos and unreleased stuff. Station management thinks it's safer from a legal standpoint if I don't archive these shows. (My freeform shows are archived.)
  1:15pm
Worm Man:

"Calvary Greetings"is a must to hear!
Avatar 1:15pm
Tony Coulter:

Technically, I believe, radio stations aren't supposed to play entire albums. I have considered playing only one side of each tape, so I can archive the shows. May yet do that....

Little Danny:

Hi Tony, fascinating. Didn't know about the album-long embargo on FM radio, but seems an extremely outdated FCC proviso in 2021. (What isn't?) Not your problem either way, of course.

I'd be totally down for the side-long focus if it meant they'd hit the archive.

But I appreciate the uniqueness and have-to-be-there specialness of the album-long focus as well! (Especially in this time of unlimited, non-expiring, on-demand content delivery.)
Avatar 1:24pm
Kevin / Ringwood / UK:

Evening Tony and listeners. There was a Scottish band called Josef K, which is the name of the main character in The Trial by Franz Kafka. Wonder if this band is named with reference to that earlier Scots band, or the Kafka, but I don't know what Noyce could be about.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm

Haha - here's me thinking, from the picture, we had some raw UK punk lined up. Finally realised Alternative TV is in the title of this Joseph K Noyce. And on reflection, I think that's a good thing.

Ahh, gotcha Little Danny, thanks for letting me know that you're not boycottin ;-)
Congrats on going back to local too!
Avatar 1:37pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Stanley: I thought the same thing when I first saw the tape! Here's what the liner notes say:

""In Bali old rites and modern life exist in a close contact. While celebrating a ceremony you can watch TV in another room. When life is hard to stand, people always tend to blame a 'higher' spirit for their bad situation. They pray and after celebration they look TV. That's magic!'"

as others indicated ^ i too appreciate the "radio-like" aspect of it being once out and that's it. i could tape it as i did in olden days.

i thought it was a respect thing for the artist, so they might make some sales.
...but i've looked a few times and invariably either couldn't find the material online, or it was too costly for me.

I actually quite like the fact that the Tape Hiss shows are 'be there or miss it'. In the age of 24/7 availability / streaming across so many platforms, it's rather nice that there is something you have to be home by 5pm for. (Appreciate that with the time difference, that might not be quite as convenient for those in the US).
